I was really excited to realize today that I have been a member on this forum for 10 years, as of this month (Jan 13th looks like). It's been several years since I posted, but I do definitely pop in from time to time to check out others' opinions. It's been really fun seeing the forum grow.
I remember when I first started here in '99... I was a freshman in college, researching the heck out of the first few generations of DVD players. I ended up purchasing a Toshiba SD-2109... one of the first to have DTS capability (which was (still is) a very big deal to me). I remember walking into my local electronics store with my two cousins. We asked the sales guy if they had that model. "Yup." And then he proceeded to kind of blow us off. I'm sure he was thinking, "...like 17 and 19yr old kids are gonna blow $450 on a DVD player." "We'll take 3." The guy was floored. It was absolutely hilarious. Good times...
So, for the record, HTF has been absolutely instrumental in bringing a fabulous movie experience into my dorm room and my home.
Dorm room - wow - LEGENDARY. For grins (as best memory can serve) ... By senior year ('02), my roomy and I had acquired the following:
DVD: Toshiba SD-2109
DVD: Toshiba (model escapes me) Cinema Series 5-disc DVD changer with DVD-Audio support
Receiver: HK AVR 55
Receiver: HK AVR 600 (I think)
Receiver: Denon AVR-2700 + Millenium Technologies DTS Decoder
TV: 27" Panasonic SuperFlat
CD: Denon DCM-370 (HDCD)
Amp: ATI 1506
Preamp: Outlaw 950
Front Speakers: DIY 3 way - Peerless 10" CSX, Morel MDM-55, SS 9500
Center Speaker: DIY 3 way - dual Vifa P17, Audax carbon fiber 4", Vifa D25AG35
Rear Speakers: DIY 2 way MTM - dual Vifa M13SG, Vifa D26
Laserdisc: Pioneer CLD-D504 with Sony RF demodulator
Software: approx 400 DVD's between the two of us, approx 150 Laserdiscs, approx 15 DVD-Audio discs
...and.... Stadium seating on our 12' x 14' deck (beds in coffin-like trap doors underneath).
Wow - those days were fun :-) Shhhhhh - don't tell anyone we rewired the AC buses at the circuit breaker panel so we had (2) 20A buses to ourselves. Everyone else (normally) had only (1) 15A bus. Poor suckers... LOL And with all those toys, I somehow ended up with only $5000 in student loans. Thank goodness for cash tips and a good job. :-)
Anyway, thanks a million to all who contribute. It's been a fun ride, and I look forward to 10 more years.
God bless,
Scott
