I know a girl who reminds me of Cher,
She's always changing the color of her hair
But she don't use nothin that you buy at the store
She likes her hair to be real orange
She uses tangerines
Tangerines

Good stuff throughout. I hope DirecTV helps out with another season.

I wholeheartedly agree with that. This is by far, IMO, the best drama on TV right now. From the previews next week's episode looks to be another great one.

That was inspiring--both Matt's and Jason's stories. And, who among us kept a dry eye during that final scene?

Tremendous episode! The Street/Riggins story was superb. The house-buying scenes were great, too.

I too had a hard time holding back the salty discharge during that last scene, Street never fails to inspire with his wise-beyond-his-years words and sincerity.

This season has utterly shattered any misgivings I had about the second season, it's absolutely superb! The best damned drama on television hands down.

FNL might be coming back after all (but the showrunners might not return):

(I wouldn't read the comments on that page, in case you fear spoilers for the rest of the season on NBC).

I'll have to read that later, but it sounds like good news/bad news. I hope if they get some new people, it's a seamless change for the audience. But, then again, getting any show is better than no show. Even if it's terrible, we can just stop watching after season 3!

It's just bad news because we've seen this season how good it can be when Katims is directly involved (the writing credit a few weeks back).

Re: Friday Night Lights - Season 3 (NBC) - No DirecTV Spoilers!

Mmmminka! Billy showed up about an hour too early. It looked like that scene might have been leading somewhere interesting. I can't say for sure where, though.

When this show's at its best, all the unrelated storylines work. That describes tonight's for sure. I like how some of them then come together, like the Taylors picking up Tyra. Assuming Dillon is in the Midland area, that was one hell of a drive.

Edit: What Patrick didn't mention from that link is that they are trying for *two* seasons in the new deal between NBC and DirecTV! If it happens, that'll mean a show that has been on the chopping block from day one will suddenly be at least a five season show! I'm sure they'll be short, cable-length seasons of around 13 episodes, but that's fine.

Is Peter Berg actively involved in the production of the TV show? If he is, I think that would help make for a smoother transition to different showrunners, if it comes to that.

Re: Friday Night Lights - Season 3 (NBC) - No DirecTV Spoilers!

I just finally watched all the NBC episodes up to this point, so I'm safe to come in here now.

Thought the Smash farewell was very well done- pretty emotional seeing him tell his mom he was going to college, even though it was pretty clear that would happen.

What does Mama Smash do for a living? Couldn't she get hired to work at the high school or something so we could see her in a few scenes?

I was trying to figure out where in Texas Dillon is supposed to be- I think it must be in the 4th dimension:

It is close enough to drive to Dallas (to pick up Tyra) or San Antonio (to get a tattoo removed)- in between those is Austin, where it's filmed, yet in a previous scene, Dillon was so far from Austin that Coach flew to Austin to take the university job.

So Dillon must be like Springfield- it is everywhere.

Did Riggins and Street drive or fly to NYC? If they flew, I don't think there was any mention of what airport they left from, since certainly Dillon isn't big enough to have airline service.

BTW, I highly recommend reading the original book, which is actually a true story. In 2007 I saw a high school game in a stadium that was once the home of the Odessa Permian Panthers (the real team in the book)- the interesting thing was that the stadium had been moved hundreds of miles to Leander, which is sort of a suburb of Austin:
Cedar Park Timberwolf Football - Bible Memorial Stadium

Attending that game showed me how true to life the show is- the stadium on the show is tiny compared to the one I visited, though.

Mama Smash is a nurse. We saw her on the job in one of the earlier episodes.

Only like three episodes to go. I hope they make the deal, because it's the highpoint of my week right now. As Tyra falls for Landry, I'm falling for the cute little lesbian. Madison's pretty hot, too.

I know, I kept waiting for Landry to ask her "Are you really sure your gay?" lol.

Buddy, Buddy, Buddy, that guy is proving to be a grown up version of Charlie Brown...that dude just can't do anything right lol.

I continue to be in amazement of how this show seems to out-do itself every week while remaining so real and honest. If this show doesn't get renewed I might just start crying which i've never done over the loss of a show before.

Next weeks "very special" episode looks disturbing.

This is simply the best written show on TV now, IMO. That mother/daughter exchange between Tami and Julie is one of the best I have ever seen on a TV series.

Re: Friday Night Lights - Season 3 (NBC) - No DirecTV Spoilers!

Great episodes this season. I also like the wisdom Riggins is imstilling upon young J.D.--which J.D. happily seemed to take to heart to mom's delight and dad's disgust!!!!

Now it seems poor Buddy is all alone with his ex-wife and younger children living in California and Lyla having walked out on him after he squandered her college money without her consent...

And if I only had a cool mom as Julie has in Tami. That was truly a beautiful, tender moment between mother and daughter which is not always featured so poignantly on television, IMHO.

Some of their fights are so real that it makes me uncomfortable to watch. And, their moments like this as well. I've said it in the past: I don't care about awards and award shows, but if they're going to have them and not give one to Connie Britton, there is no justice. Maybe she's so good that they don't even recognize it as acting.

I gave up on award shows long ago but I agree, Greg, if they're going to go through the trouble of having them then this show deserves it big time.

I'll never be able to thank you enough for turning me onto this.

Re: Friday Night Lights - Season 3 (NBC) - No DirecTV Spoilers!

I want to head off some panic, since I was feeling it myself a moment ago. Minka has signed on as the lead of a new CW show called "Body Politic." But:

Quote:
For the "FNL" fans whose hearts started racing, Kelly's new gig is not an sign that "FNL" is not coming back. Negotiations between NBC and DirecTV are still going on, and insiders are optimistic that the show will return for a fourth season.

But given the fact that Kelly's character on the show, Lyla, graduated from high school this season and

is off to college,
she is not going to be a regular next season but will return for a multiepisode arc if "FNL" clinches a fourth-season pickup.

The Street/Smash tactic.

Edit: Added a spoiler tag. I don't know if it's necessary, but better safe than sorry.

Well, we knew that
Warning Spoiler! Click to show
since the show will probably always center on the Dillon Panthers that one by one we'd lose the original young cast as they go off to college etc and a new team is introduced.

So that's something to consider as well.

Buddy blew the college money and maybe it will be a question for Lyla in the next episode or two. A minor spoiler, and maybe not really one at all, but I wanted to be safe.

i thought FNL would go 'stale' and lose its group when s2 began with the whole tyra+matt hiding the secret situation... but it only got better with time it's truly now one of the greatest series ever made.

Re: Friday Night Lights - Season 3 (NBC) - No DirecTV Spoilers!

What an emotional rollercoaster tonight, and it was the ladies who got to me. Matt's grandma broke my heart when she was asking for her slippers. I realized how good she is, because I don't even know the actress's name. She seems so real. I was also affected by JD's mom and Matt's mom, but the scene that really had me choked up was the one between Tyra and her mom. That was exactly what Tyra has needed to hear.

I see what Patrick was saying about this being a return to season one quality (not that I had a big problem with season two). I'd go so far as to say it's better. They are really hitting all the right notes. No mistakes. This has got to be the best show in TV history.

Re: Friday Night Lights - Season 3 (NBC) - No DirecTV Spoilers!

I second your sentiments, Greg and go one further, J.D. also broke my heart.

I felt so horrible for the poor kid, he played his ass off, the Panthers are going to state and yet all his father saw was that he didn't follow HIS gameplan.

I wanted to pummel that abusive asshole!

I also want to see Lyla forgive her dad, yes he did something monumentaly stupid but it's not worth cutting your dad out of your life over. I think that Tim scored some points with Buddy, too with his wise advice of giving Lyla some time.

Never have I watched a show that looked, sounded and felt this real, I agree, Greg that it's the best show in TV history, best one i've ever watched anyway.

Re: Friday Night Lights - Season 3 (NBC) - No DirecTV Spoilers!

Yeah, I felt bad for JD, too. He's a good kid. I think we in the audience felt threatened by him at first for Matt's sake, but it isn't his fault he's a rare talent. His dad has always and will always suck, though, and I'm just glad that his mom showed last week that she's not like him.

I'm glad you're on board for the show and still enjoying it so much. And, signs point to two more years! I'll wait for that to be official before I breathe easier, but I'm not too worried about it now. It's hard to believe that a show that has been on the chopping block from early on in the first season is on the verge of being guaranteed a five season run at the very least.

Forgot to mention that I was also touched by Mindy's speech to Tyra. With all the emotion and touchy-feeliness I was going through, I felt my man points sliding into the red.

I'm also a big fan of Friday Night Lights, but do the Panthers have to win so many games on the final play?
