I was going for a Denon 3808CI because of the Ethernet capability (music streaming on my LAN), but for the price I expected a bit more Video Codec support (currently none), they have the chip power, and the price is there.
Then I found a good Media server around 500US$ (Tvix 7000A ), with numerous A/V codecs, HDMI 1.3a, and use a “Sigma Design SMP8635” chipset (What is that?).
So I am thinking of saving 1000$ by getting a cheaper Denon (AVR-789? or 589?) that will give me the HDMI, 7.1 and digital out that I want. From the site: “Faroudja’s renowned DCDi processing and upconversion to provide near-HD picture quality” (What is that?).
But is there a cost in image quality? Would paying for a better Amp worth it for the image? Or would my 1K better spent on better speakers for an lamp based audio-only amp I’m looking at?
Thanks.
