Green Screen when plugged into HDMI

I have recently purchased a pioneer receiver with hdmi in and out options. I hooked it up with hdmi out from my hd dvr to hdmi in port on the receiver then another hdmi from the hdmi out to the hd tv. The picture comes on for 5 seconds and then turns green. I can hear the audio but just an all green screen for picture. I hooked the dvr up directly to hdmi on tv and everything works fine. can i fix this?

It could be an HDMI handshake issue between your DVR and the receiver. It would help if you'd list the make and model for all the components involved. If I'm right about the handshake business, you might try connecting the HD-DVR to the TV via HDMI and run a digital coax or optical to the receiver for surround sound. That way you can just "watch TV" when you want and add the receiver when you need it. Do you have a DVD player? (If so, provide the model number for that as well.) How is that connected? If it is through the receiver? How? Component? HDMI? Does it work through the HDMI out on the receiver?
