Are these any good? I'm just starting out my home theatre system and was wondering if 12 for $29.99 from a Canadian ebayer is worth it. I just would like to kick start my system.

Re: Nakamichi banana plugs

Get your plugs, cables, etc. from Blue Jeans Cable or Monoprice. I wouldn't trust EBay.

Re: Nakamichi banana plugs

Just keep in mind that banana plugs will not improve the electrical connection, despite common belief to the contrary. They are simply for convenience.

So with getting some inexpensive ones I shouldn't really be too concerned then?

Inexpensive is fine as long as they are not junk. Every extra connection you make has the potential to degrade performance. Stick with reputable sellers that aren't out to cheat you, like blue jeans and monoprice (or speakerrepair.com )

Or, better yet, skip the banana plugs.

Re: Nakamichi banana plugs

The only performance benefit to using banana plugs is properly installed they can help to eliminate frayed wires from touching each other or the back of your receiver. But the same thing can be accomplished by twisting the exposed wires tightly and putting a little solder on it.

Otherwise, the only reason I use banana plugs is I switch gear around quite a bit and it makes it so much easier than using bare wire. Also, my front right speaker in my living room is smack-dab in the middle of my front door. Friends/family know to go to the side kitchen door. Others just have to wait a minute while I move the speaker out of the way. Guess you know where my priorities lye .

Re: Nakamichi banana plugs

It's hard to beat the venerable banana plug for convenience. Bananas are all I've ever used in my setups since I am always moving things around or changing components or just fiddling in general.

I would say K.I.S.S. is the best way to go with a Banana Plug. I am a big fan of the no frills, screw down Banana that Parts Express carries for $0.95 each. Simple, cheap and they do what they are supposed to do.
