Does anyone have any experience with the rx-v3800? It is a 140w/ch receiver and I have the front speakers bi-amped, but my loudness doesnt seem to be as loud as I think it should be. My dad has a RX-V980 and it seems his gets louder at a lower volume setting, the rx-v980 is a 100w/ch receiver.
The loudness is not something I am "too" concerned about, but rather, I don't seem to be getting the bass out of my subwoofer that I want. I have a DSP3200 sub from Paradigm. I have the crossover on the sub turned to "bypass" and the crossover on my receiver set to 100Hz, I have the phase on the sub turned to 0 and the level is at half. With this setup, I get some decent bass, but I would like to have a better and deeper bass, the bass I am getting doesnt seem like it is doing as well as this sub can do.
Two things I am unsure of. First, in the "bass out" setting of the receiver, you can set it to "subwoofer" or "both". I am not sure which to use. I understand that if you set it to both, you will get bass out of your front speakers as well as the sub, and if you set it to "sub" you only get bass out of the sub itself. However, if you set it to "sub", does this mean that only the signals that you have the crossover set to filter get passed to the sub? If so, does this also mean that you can end up losing bass becuase the bass signal is set to sub only, and if you have it set to sub then you wont be getting all of your bass? Whereas if you set it to "both" then the signals under your crossover will be sent to the sub, and all the rest will be sent to the front speakers?
Anyway, not sure what to set that to.
Secondly, I have never used a parametric EQ, which this receiver has. I have only ever used the standard graphic EQ's, which, as you know, have the sliders that you can adjust individual frequencies. This parametric EQ seems to be able to adjust the frequencies of each individual speaker. Something I am not familiar with. I have a feeling if I could get this parametric EQ, and the gain and such associated with it, set, that I would achieve the sound that is more like what I am looking for.
Right now, some of the frequencies are set, but the gain on each of them is set to 0.
Anyway, if anyone has any experience with this, or with this receiver in general, if you could give me a hand, I would surely appreciate it.
Thanks.
Sam
