dts signal sounds wobbly -_-_-_-_-

Hi there enthusiast!

I have recently upgraded to blu ray & have purchased panasonic dmp bd35 blu ray player. My other equipment is a panasonic full hd plasma (hdmi connected) with an outdated albeit very good sony receiver (model no: str db925) The receiver is about 8/9 yrs old. I have used the optical cable to connect to blu ray to receiver. I believe with new audio formats in blu ray, there may be some issues with converting/processing to dts & DD.
It reproduces Dolby Digital impeccably well, dts plays through all speakers but dialogue is reproduces with a wobbly sound effect, still audible though.
I am have gone through all the various settings in set up but to no avail.
I was wondering if someone could enlighten me on something I may not know or have overlooked. Thanks guys!

Panasonic Blu-ray players downconvert the HD DTS formats to full bitrate DTS. Older Sony receivers are notorious for not being able to handle a full bitrate DTS signal, with the symptoms being exactly what you describe. The reason it happens with Blu-ray, and not DVD, is that very, very few DVD's were released with full bitrate DTS.
