I think I can pull this off, since I just bought the player and I only own 9 Blu-rays!

Re: The Official 2009 HTF watch your Blu-ray collection challenge
This sounds like a fun challenge. Unfortunately, I have suspended all Blu-ray watching for the next couple of weeks as I'm currently waiting for my new 52" Bravia W to make it's way home. Once it's setup, I'm in.....think I'll start with Batman Begins & The Dark Knight.

Re: The Official 2009 HTF watch your Blu-ray collection challenge
So far in 2009, I've watched one of my 20 or so BDs (haven't bothered to count them exactly). I watched a few of them in 2008 (titles I'll likely revisit in 09 so I'll rate them then).
Wall*E **** 1/2 (ratings listed below as borrowed from the OP)
The Golden Compass *** 1/2 (probably helps to have read the books--I find Roger Eberts' review of this sums it up best)
Shoot 'Em Up **** (with the caveat that it is NOT for all tastes)
what the stars mean.
5 stars classic, all timer.
4 stars must see highly recommended
3 stars above average, well worth a look
2 stars a disappointment, a better movie was expected
1 star watch only if nothing else is on
0 stars useless complete waste of film
PS--does "rule # 4" allow for HD DVDs of titles also on BD--I don't plan to replace them with BD but each format is HDM. It's fine either way (easier for me to finish them this year if it's BD only as I have 120 HD DVDs with about 100 of them unwatched) Just curious and I'm not a "format fanboy" so either way is fine with me.

Re: The Official 2009 HTF watch your Blu-ray collection challenge
Depends on how many thousands--but the same can be said of CDs/albums etc.
I have, roughly, three types of films in my collection (all formats combined, about 600 titles). Work-related. I use full or excerpt screenings in my classes. Heavy rotation (more than twice a year minimum, usually 4 or more: sub section, kid movies). Pretty self explanatory. Covers wide variety of genres. Light rotation/bargains. Films I think others will enjoy and keep on hand to either loan or screen when guests are here (like my dad--we usually have "movie night" when he visits--happens 4-6 times a year)/films that are cheaper than rentals that will get at least two screenings.
With that rough categorization, I could go to 1500-2000 films and still get around to all of them within 5 years. Moreover, when "TV season" is "down" (during re-runs), my movie watching goes way up.
Of course, there is also the collection aspect itself, but that is best left for another thread (as it extends to far more than one type of collection--I have over 5000 books on my shelves and I keep buying new ones--work related, in many cases, but still).
