Hawaii Five: O: The Sixth Season and beyond

Aha! No wonder I never saw what the back of the #1 "Hotel" release looked like until I got my copy in the mail.

That aside, why has CBS/Paramount stopped releasing pictures of the back sides of their future releases? Sounds kind of bad for business.

I can't understand why myself. It adds to anticipation for the new season boxset release. I especially wanted to see the rear boxart for the seventh season set, to see if Al Harrington and Douglas Mossman had been included, what with their absence from the front cover following the revised version being posted on TVShowsOnDVD.

If the absence of Al Harrington on the front of S7 is troubling to some, I take this time to apologize for sending in the e-mail (based on erroneous info) that suggested it should be changed. :)

I emailed TVshowsondvd.com, too!  They didn't forward my email to Paramount to please reveal the rear art for Hawaii Five-O season 7.  Does anyone know Paramount's email address?

If this doesn't work, can the first member who purchases Hawaii Five-O season 7 add a link to the scanned in rear box art to their copy, please, since I won't be able to purchase it until Christmas?  Thanks! 

It sure is a bummer about Paramount's refusal to promote their sales in this way!

Got my copy of the sixth season on Region 2 in the week. The rear boxart is the same as the Region 1 set (the last one to be released by CBS DVD). Like with the fifth season set there are six discs with four episodes on each disc, inside a plastic case. Haven't tested the discs out yet but the presentation of the boxset itself is up to the standard of the previous five sets.

i am actually looking forward to Season #7. I know the show started to go down hill after Season #7, especially with the replacement actors. I like the original four of Kano/Kelly/Williams and McGarrett. I was not big fan of Al Harrington, he was ok, but, did not have the same persona as the original four. Duke was ok, but, he was better when he had a lesser role and was brought in to assist McGarrett's team.

Tested out my Season 6 (Region 2) boxset a few days ago. Had to send it back as it was faulty. Tested out the replacement copy three days ago. More satisfied with this one, although it's not as fresh because I've already had a glimpse at each episode.

There was an audio problem with episodes 1 and 24. This time both were better. However some of the discs aren't 100% perfect. I've skipped through a few chapters for each episode and most are alright. "Nightmare in Blue" was perfectly fine with the first boxset. This time though it's slightly not as good.

Do CBS DVD replace discs which aren't 100% fine? I know some DVD distributors replace faulty discs, but others don't.

Hawaii Five-O: The Seventh Season

I'd like to add to the request made in a previous post (can someone post a picture of the rear boxart for the seventh season set) by asking if someone can post how many of the 24 seventh season episodes have episodic promos (narrated by Jack Lord). Thanks.

Looking at the CBS Television Distribution Syndication website section for Hawaii Five-O, they say that Seasons 1 through 7 have been transferred to HD. Yet on the page for Season 7 it shows that 17 episodes have been digitally remastered:

But this might be the Season 7 episodes digitally remastered and not digitally remastered for just syndication and not DVD as well.

Hawaii Five-O: The Eighth Season

Front artwork for the sixth season set was posted on TVShowsOnDVD on 10th February, 2009 so I would assume front artwork for the eighth season won't be posted on TVShowsOnDVD until February 2010.

I'm hoping fingers crossed that the feature length version of the season premiere "Murder - Eyes Only" (probably around 95 minutes) will be on disc 1. I assume it will 23 episodes on six discs, if you count the season premiere as one episode and not two single episodes.

I was really shocked to find that when the series ended, he was 60 years old! I think he looked great in the series and to think he was mostly in his 50s during its run, it is remarkable.

Jack Lord was born in 1920, so, when Hawaii Five-O started he was about 48 years old. The network did not go wrong with Jack Lord as McGarrett. I was very young when the series came out, but, i do remember the show in the 1970s as well be in syndication on different networks over the years. I have the first 6 season on dvd and have order season #7. I love the 1960-1980s crime shows and i am trying to collect as many as possible, especiallly if they are released on dvd.

Did hear that CBS was considering released updated version were McGarrett's son takes over for Jack Lord. I just not sure how this will succeed. McGarrett made the show and it is hard to see and/or watch any show that does not have him in it. I realize he has passed on, but, there are some shows that do not deserve to be re-made and this is one.

Will there be a HTF review for the seventh season set? Some interesting comments in the guestbook on the Hawaii Five-O Home Page website.

The theme tune for the episode "Welcome to Our Branch Office" has been replaced. Instead of the Season 7 version it is the Season 5/6 version.

The print quality isn't so good for "How to Steal a Masterpiece". Finally all 24 seventh season episodes have Jack Lord episode promos (which is great), making this the first Hawaii Five-O DVD boxset (not including the Season 1 set) to have episodic promos for all episodes in the season.

Has anyone here got their Season 7 set early? Has anyone's local stores got the Season 7 in early? (This is based on what I've read on the Guestbook on the Hawaii Five-O Home Page website). Amazon.com aren't shipping theirs till Tuesday (sometimes they ship a few days early).

i have order my set, but, will not receive it until tuesday or wednesday along with my Vega$ copy as well.

I still love this series, because it is classic one. I was young when it came out.

I got S7 today.   The theme music is different just as described.  Whether that means replaced or that was how it was originally broadcast, I will leave that to the Five-O experts.
 

my copy is in transit and i expect it tomorrow or the next day. I also order Vega$ as well. In fact, i watch an episode of Charlie Angel's were Dan Tanna is introduced and offers to take the Angels to dinner.

Picked up season 7 today and at first glance, the quality seems to be on par with the last few seasons.

Watched my favorite season 7 episode tonight (and one of my top 10 all-time Five-0 favorites), "We Hang Our Own", which boasts a crackling good performance by Leslie Nielsen as Col. Faraday, whose scenes in which he spars with Jack Lord are riveting. It's a great reminder to younger fans that Nielsen was at one time a very good dramatic actor long before he started doing all the goofy comedy roles that he is best known for these last 3 decades. Plus, this role gives him a more meatier and dramatic role than the series' pilot did.

Additionally, the score for this episode by my favorite Five-0 composer Richard Shores is excellent and belongs on a series CD music soundtrack someday.

Throw in a tension-filled ending, more horseback riding by JL, and appearances by Perry King, Bruce Boxleitner and the lovely Elissa Dulce, and you've got 50 minutes of great television. Definitely one of the season's highlights!

i have been watching the episodes from 7th season as well. The only thing that bothers me is that Danny Williams/Chin Ho Kelly get more camera present that lesser likes Duke and Al Harrington's character.

The We Hang our own was very good acting by Leslie Nielsen and i like the fact it showed a young Perry King and Bruce Boxleitner. It is hard to believe this episode is nearly 40 yrs old.

I can not wait to see the remaining seasons released.

If there is anyone who still has doubt's about Leslie Nielsen's acting chops, they should check out a fourth season episode of Wagon Train, called the 'The Jeremy Dow Story'.  He brings out one of the strongest emotional performances on any dramactic TV show ever made.  The final scene alone is so well underplayed, and expressed with so few words, you will want to rewind and watch it all over again (which is just what I did).

I am REALLY looking forward to picking up season 7 of Five-O, and like others have stated, will most likely start off with 'We Hang Our Own'.

i have been watching several episodes and it is interesting to look at actors like Perry King, Bruce Boxleitner, Vic Tayback in various episode.

I can not wait for the remaining episodes to be released. This is one of the best crime dramas every produced. I know that is just my opinion, but, i think shows, like Hawaii Five-O, Miami Vice, Starsky and Hutch, Mannix were incredible shows. TV today does not complete, especially with the acting of 1960/1970s/1980s.

I can't hardly wait until Christmas, when I can purchase Hawaii Five-O season 7.  But I disagree with those on the earlier pages of the posts who believe that season 9 will not be as good as the other seasons.  The reviews of the episodes of that season sound very interesting.  These appear to the be the best ones:

Nine Dragons-Steve has amnesia and almost drowns because Wo Fat has captured him.

Elegy in a Rainforest-John Manicote's daughter is kidnapped.

Requiem for a Saddle Bronc Rider-Steve's friend's brother disappears.  She asks him to look into it.

Target-a Cop-Steve and Danno go undercover as HPD, because a serial killer is murdering policemen.

Tour de Force-Killer Aboard-another serial killer

 

To Die in Paradise-Danno almost gets shot while attempted to save a kidnapped woman.

 

A Capitol Crime-A man threatens to blow a building up with hostages in it if his demands are not met.

 

Oldest Profession, Latest Price-another serial killer

 

Practical Jokes Can Kill You-Molly Taggert from Turkey Shoot at Makapuu returns.

Has anyone else noticed the dullness in the color for season seven? I noticed this in several episodes, especially How to Steal a Masterpiece, which is about works of art.

I just read that Technicolor closed their U.S. dye plant around this time (1974-1975), but I have no idea if that's the kind of processing that was used for Five-O's film and DOP Robert Morrison is not around to answer questions any more.

I was looking at a couple of earlier shows in the last few days like A Thousand Pardons from season two and Thanks for the Honeymoon from season five and the color in both these episodes was brilliant.

I have always suspected that the color for the "digitalized" Five-O (dating back several years to when the episodes were first shown on The Family Channel) was hyped up from what it was originally, especially in the early seasons.

Watching "We Hang Our Own," I noticed that the actor playing the Captain of Police was voice-dubbed by Jack Soo (uncredited).

i have completed watching the 7th season and i cant wait for other seasons to be released. I was young when the show came out, but, i do remember the later episodes, like 1975-1980 time frame. Plus, i also remember the show on network like WGN along with Rockford Files.

Which season's theme tune is used at the start of the '81 syndication sales reel?

And what is the name of that location with the steps going up to that building with the statue on the front of it, and did they film any episodes there? I remember reading on the Hawaii Five-O Home Page guestbook page that there was a location in Hawaii they never used for filming. Even if I could remember the location name (which I can't) I wouldn't know anyway if they had filmed there.

It's the #10 theme that's used off the top of this clip. As for that place with the steps leading up to the statue, that's the National Cemetery of the Pacific, otherwise known as the Punchbowl. The statue's name is Lady Columbia.

I very much like that Season 10 version of the theme tune. I've likely heard it before but forgotten how it sounded. Changes between different versions I don't always notice. But I know the early seasons had a more basic sound, with more sounds being added later on. The Season 10 version has an added extra sound, which reminds me of some 1980's TV series.

I think the 1968 pilot film showed it in one scene, but I'm not sure if any other episodes had it or were shot in that area.
