What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
Wall*E, Ratatouille and Cars are all great looking demo material.Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
Yes, those Pixars look fabulous. I'd also add THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS as another animation choice. For live action: LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD, CASINO ROYALE, THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD, NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, CHICAGO, DREAMGIRLS, BLADE RUNNER, 2001, IRON MAN. The list goes on.
Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
Definitely any of the Pixars mentioned above.Didn't think Iron Man really showed off the potential
of the BD format. Strangely, it's the classic films that really look
the best on BD. The one that immediately comes to mind is

Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
How The West Was Won is perhaps the best live action PQ I have yet seen and I have seen most of the top titlesAnother animation movie to add to the list would be Kung Fu Panda. That is perhaps the best overall PQ I have yet seen, better than Cars and the other Pixar discs..

Very true about the classics. A draw dropping image I found was For Your Eyes Only. The age of the film combined with how amazing it looked dropped my jaw to the floor and produced an "OMG WOW" moment.
Sometime's you reach what's real by making believe.
Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
I'd like to confirm Ratatouille (and any Pixar movie). It was the first BD I saw on my new system and we all said 'WOW'. The color and clarity are stunning. I have heard over and over that Kung fu Panda is also spectacular (but I haven't seen it yet).Add 'I Robot' to the list.
Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
I recommend the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy.Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
Thanks for all the replies. I did see Kung Fu Panda in a few of the stores when shopping for the TV, and it was most definatly a "OMG WOW" movie. Too bad I just bought it on normal DVD last month.I was thinking about Iron Man, but seeing it playing in the stores did not drop my jaw. We don't have Wall*E yet, so maybe that will be one of the first animated ones.
How does Top Gun look/sound in Blu-Ray?? I don't have I Robot yet and I liked that one... hummm.
Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
Without a doubt, the absolute best looking Blu-Ray I will own for quite some time:Sin City.
I still can't believe how good it looks(and sounds)!

I bought For Your Eyes Only as a test. I already own all the Bond special editions on dvd. When they had a sale at Target I picked up the Blu-Ray version just to convince myself I wouldn't be getting a big upgrade over the standard dvd.
I was wrong. I'm now in the process of going all Blu for my Bond collection.
Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
The Kill Bill's are stunningly sharp. I agree with most of these. I found For Your Eyes only to be one of the softest of the new Bond's. Dr No on the other hand looks real goodJeff Whitford

Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
With me it too was Ratatouille when I moved up to my 70 inch from my 60 inch SXRD but today it would be HTWWW in its Smilebox format for a classic and for sheer visual and sound quality on a " normal" film in would be Baraka. That 8k picture is staggering.Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
I was going to say "WALL-E" but then remembered it was the second of 2 Blu Ray releases I've seen...
So I'll just add my voice to the chorus.

DR. NO is the one that has impressed me most so far.Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
All of the above are great suggestions! Ratatouille especially - if for no other reason than the fact that it really is a great movie. One film that was suggested to me when i asked the same question is the martial arts movie Shinobi - heart under blade. The sound and picture are the best i have ever seen and heard...I"m not really a martial arts fan, but i have to admit - this one is a must-see for people w\ great setups
hope that helped!
Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
Lots of good suggestions already. For a family film I'll add Speed Racer to that list. We had a bunch of my son's friends over for a viewing party and everyone - EVERYONE, parents included - flipped out. The adults also loved the movie, contrary to their expectations.Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?

You will not see the full impact of any 1080 HD movie unless you sit no farther away than 1.8 times the width of the screen. Will it look great? Yes, but the human eyes has limitations as well when it comes to resolving power. So, if you want to see 1080 HD in all it's true glory, don't make the mistake of sitting too far away from your new HDTV.

Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
I, Robot, 2001 a Space Odyssey, A Scanner Darkly, Across the Universe, Pan's Labyrinth, Cars, The Searchers to show of what a movie in the 1950's can look like.Though, Blade Runner is my favorite movie, I wouldn't recommend it to show off your Hi-Def system. While it looks and sounds great, it still isn't a jaw dropping experience that the above movies will provide.

Kung Fu Panda, Wall*E, Cars, Rat, Kill Bills', Dark Knight (IMAX scenes in particaular....some of those were simply the best looking non animated material I have viewed on my RS1/94" screen combo).Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
DR. NO, THE SEARCHERS and HOW THE WEST WAS WON.Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
An older b&w classic that is an OMG experience for me is The Day The Earth Stood still.Johnny

Another cat? Perhaps. For love there is also a season; its seeds must be resown. But a family cat is not replaceable like a wornout coat or a set of tires. Each new kitten becomes its own cat, and none is repeated. I am four cats old, measuring out my life in friends that...

Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
I agree with most of the titles mentioned here, they are all quite pleasing.I would add Transformers, about the only title I have that "rates" and hasn't been mentioned so far. I bet teens would especially get a kick out of it. I found the sound pleasing too, mostly for its smoothness I think, not bombastic though.
But who are you trying to please, or what are you trying to see? If I was trying to demo to impress myself, I would definitely want something B&W (like Sin City) as not all displays do that well. And I would also weight the SQ perhaps higher than some would. Or I would want something that was (mostly) live action, and the Kill Bills are good for that and also available cheaply (JIC you haven't seen them and prefer to buy). But yes, it is probably the animated films that are the most showy, though I am not so impressed by them because they look awfully good on DVD too (they were created totally in the digital domain after all). It's when you have real people and scenery that looks great that I am impressed.
Re: What's the best "OMG WOW!" movie?
Blade Runner was my first Blu purchase. I bought it before I had a player. After setting up my new 50 " Panny Viera and Sony 550, BR was the first title I checked out. My jaw dropped.I have since added a number of Blu titles to my library, and I still put BR in to show off the system to visiting family and friends.
Those opening minutes of the film are, to me, utterly stunning in Blu-ray. Both image and sound.
