I just bought the Samsung PN58A650 plasma TV and want to make sure I'm hooking every thing up for the best quality....

PS3 or stand alone Blu-Ray player (not sure which one yet) to the Yamaha RX-V563 reciever via HDMI
HD Satellite to reciever via HDMI
Wii to reciever via Componet

Reciever to TV via HDMI

Does that look correct or am I missing some thing?

Re: Is this the best way??

If I remember correctly you cant run HDMI to your TV and run yuor WII via component.....if you run HDMI out than everything must be HDMI in....you can however run the audio to yoru receiver and run the component to your tv as well as the HDMI for the rest of the parts. Also, I would get the PS3. If there ever is a firmware update you will be able to download that through the network for your blu ray player that is built into your ps3

This is true of most new 2.0 players (Panasonic BD55, Sony BDP-S350, etc). The PS3 is a good player, but there are others as good and cheaper. PS3 also makes it difficult to use a universal remote.

Re: Is this the best way??

Thanks for the replies guys.

Is the limitation on how I hook the system up due to the receiver or the new TV? I'm not quite understanding why the Wii would not work hooked up that way. It comes in on the receiver on component inputs, the receiver is told to look for it there by user selection, there is a component connection out to the TV, and the TV is told to look for it on the component in by user selection.

From what you wrote romeoz, if I use the HDMI, none of the other input/out puts will work??

Actually, what romeoz wrote is incorrect. That receiver will do upconversion of component and s-video. So you should be able to connect the Wii via component and view it via the HDMI output. Consult your user's manual for details

Re: Is this the best way??

Jeff, reading pages 13-15 of the receiver manual does not show/say that upconverts the componet to HDMI... unless I'm reading it wrong or misunderstanding it.

Sorry, you are correct. I mistook upconversion to component as upconversion to HDMI in the specifications. However, that receiver does upconvert all lower connections to component if you turn "Video Conversion" to on (pg. 73 in manual).

Anyway, I'd hook up the Wii via component and despite what ahs been said, you can use the component output on the receiver. Whether you are using HDMI or not doesn't enter into the equation. Just choose component on the receiver and component on the TV.

Re: Is this the best way??

you can use component and HDMI at the same time, you just need to be running both those connecitons to your projector or tv as well. You can only upconvert to the lowest level. For instance, if you run S video out you can input HDMI, Component, Svideo. If you run HDMI out you can only run HDMI in becuase nothing is less that HDMI. And dont think just because everyone talks about HDMI being the best, thats not the case. HDMI is just component and digital audio in one cable. Its convient but if Component is all you can run than you will get the same picture with that or HDMI.

HDMI - Digital, 1080p
Component - Analog, 1080i max
