PC Help

I'm looking to purchase a Media Center type PC for my system. I would like it to:
1. Rip and PlayCDs
2. Play Blu Ray Disks
3. Record HDTV from satellite

I have a Sony 52" LCD TV, DirecTV Satellite and a Denon AVR-3808CI with speakers.

Can some give me some advice on what I need in a PC and what software to use?

Thanx in advance.

1. Any program can do this, you can use windows media player that comes with any windows os.
2. Get a Blu Ray Rom...they run about 120.00 on ebay for a Sony 4X.
3. Get a TV tuner card that will allow you to input from your dish.

Re: PC Help

If you're going to record and playback HD then you'll want a decent amount of processing power. Alternatively, you could get a tuner card that does the encoding and decoding on the card to take some of the load off the primary CPU.

If you're buying a new PC, just get a Core2Duo or Core2Quad processor and you'll be fine. Also, order it with Vista Home Premium which actually has a pretty solid media center built-in. If you're a Linux person, then do a google search on Linux Media Center Edition.

Re: PC Help

Thanks for the help. Any recommendations for TV card, PC or software? I'm thiking about a Hauppauge card and Beyond TV for recording. As for PC maybe a Sony or a Dell Studio Hybrid.
