Thanks Robert. Saw it in the theater and walked out disappointed. I'll give it a rent first, I need to see it again but not sure it's worthy of a purchase.

Anyone have a more positive experience with this film? I just
preordered it on Amazon as I felt it would be the perfect blind
purchase, but now I'm on the fence as to whether to cancel that
order.

Ronbo,
Loved the film, it has a lot in common with Open Range.

Re: WHV announcement: Appaloosa (DVD/Blu-ray)

Ron ~

I caught this in the theater and found it to be terrific. A modest film, but a solid one, focused more on character than action.

That being said, the action that is in it is very good; it's just not an empty "shoot-'em-up." It's better than that.

I am a real fan of character development and strong acting, and this one has both. Viggo and Ed are perfect together, and Zellwegger gives a nice turn, as well.

Best of all -- and especially in Blu -- this film should look gorgeous, as it held some really beautiful location vistas of the sort that many fans of westerns so appreciate.

My recommendation: Keep your order active. I know I am.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
If they made a t.v. movie about an Elvis Presley impersonator, would they have to get a Kurt Russell impersonator to play the part?

Ronbo,

Ordered it right away. If you liked Open Range, Lonesome Dove and Unforgiven, you will almost certainly like this film.
I liked Pollock as well (and a lot), but the only real similarity to this one is Ed Harris, I'd say.

I'm glad the old 'Western' genre is fulfilling its promises once again.

Re: WHV announcement: Appaloosa (DVD/Blu-ray)

I saw this in theaters and really enjoyed it. It's a quiet sort of western, more unassuming and character based, which made it a really enjoyable watch. Don't know if it's one that you'd want to watch over and over, but I'm certainly glad I saw it and would at the very least recommend a rental.

Remember when I made a list of 2008 films I was looking forward to seeing again (about two weeks ago)? This was near the top.

Re: WHV announcement: Appaloosa (DVD/Blu-ray)

Thanks everyone.

I loved Open Range, Lonesome Dove and Unforgiven.

Slow, character-driven westerns are just fine by me.

Some of the most respected opinions have just confirmed the fact
that I made a wise choice in blind ordering this title.
