Re: 2009 TRACK THE TV EPISODES YOU WATCH

31 May 2009
401. Gatchaman: "The Neon Giant that Smiles in the Dark" (11 Mar 1973) (Japanese soundtrack)
402. Father Knows Best: "24 Hours in Tyrantland" (1959 episode produced for a US Treasury Savings Bond drive) While it barely works as a heavy-handed piece of anti-Communist propaganda, as an episode of FKB... not so much.
403. The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet: "The Reading Room" (20 Feb 1957)
404. The Honeymooners: "Head of the House" (31 Mar 1956)
405. Alfred Hitchcock Presents: "Help Wanted" (1 Apr 1956)
406. Honey West: "The Perfect Un-crime" (28 Jan 1966) Honey and Sam are hired by a repentant embezzler who wants to return his loot before he gets found out.
407. Gatchaman: "The Magma Giant, Emperor of Hell" (18 Mar 1973) (Japanese and English soundtrack) Only the Japanese would have the audacity to create a giant monster with the face of Jesus Christ... and get away with it.

My January tally.
My February tally.
My March tally.
My April tally.
My May tally.
BARBARA WRIGHT: You're from Earth?
MORTON DILL: No... no, ma'am, I... I'm from Alabama.

Ratings:

1 Jun 2009
408. Doctor Who: "The Armageddon Factor, Part One" (20 Jan 1979)
409. Gatchaman: "The God Phoenix Reborn" (25 Mar 1973) (Japanese and English soundtrack)
410. I Love Lucy: "Mertz and Kurtz" (11 Oct 1954)
411. Dark Shadows: Episode 295 (11 Aug 1967) And so Dark Shadows goes color... and loses some of his atmosphere in the transition. But why would ABC make the change on a Friday?
412. Gunsmoke: "Greater Love" (1 Dec 1956)

2 Jun 2009
413. Doctor Who: "The Armageddon Factor, Part Two" (27 Jan 1979)
414. Dark Shadows: Episode 296 (14 Aug 1967)
415. Dragnet: "The Big Cast" (14 Feb 1952) Guest-starring Lee Marvin as a murder suspect interogated by Jack Webb. Tense and tautly directed. Now I understand what all the fuss over Dragnet is about.
416. The Andy Griffith Show: "The Jinx" (29 Jan 1962)
417. The Avengers: "The £50,000 Breakfast" (12 Oct 1967) Guest-starring the lovely Anneke Wills.

3 Jun 2009
418. Hawaii Five-0: "Tiger By The Tail" (10 Oct 1968) An episode with a plot (kidnapping of a rock singer) similar to the Honey West episode "The Princess and the Paupers," but the tone and execution is completely different. And you can plainly see the '60s generation gap by the disdain the creators had toward young people. Did they really talk like that in 1968?
419. Dark Shadows: Episode 297 (15 Aug 1967)

4 Jun 2009
420. Doctor Who: "The Armageddon Factor, Part Three" (3 Feb 1979) Boy, this one is starting to get tedious.
421. Dark Shadows: Episode 298 (16 Aug 1967)
422. The Beverly Hillbillies: "Jethro’s Friend" (29 May 1963) A sweet episode about the Clampetts showing an overprotected classmate of Jethro's some of the simpler joys of life. Guest-starring Dr. Bellows himself, Hayden Rorke.

5 Jun 2009
423. Doctor Who: "The Armageddon Factor, Part Four" (10 Feb 1979)
424. Dark Shadows: Episode 299 (17 Aug 1967) A traditional soap opera development for a change -- Victoria and Burke have their first kiss.
425. Get Smart: "Kiss of Death" (31 Dec 1966)
426. Danger Man: "No Marks for Servility" (8 Dec 1964) A crooked financier (who is also a bully, wife-beater and kidnapper) faces the righteous indignation of an undercover John Drake.
427. The Man From U.N.C.L.E.: "The Bridge of Lions Affair, Part I" (4 Feb 1966) Both U.N.C.L.E. and Thrush are after an experimental rejuvenation process. Love the rare scene set in Thrush Central. Lots of familiar faces here: Maurice Evans and Bernard Fox (Samantha's father and Dr. Bombay on Bewitched, respectively), and James Doohan (a few months before he signed on board the U.S.S. Enterprise.)

6 Jun 2009
428. Rocky & Bullwinkle: "Wailing Whale, Parts 1 & 2"
429. Gatchaman: "Galactor’s Witch Racer" (1 Apr 1973) (Japanese and English soundtrack)

7 Jun 2009
430. The Benny Hill Show: Episode 6 (23 Dec 1970) One of the rare B&W episodes due to "industrial action." With an overlong parody of the UK talent show Opportunity Knocks, including a performance of "Ernie (The Fastest Milkman in the West)."

8 Jun 2009
431. Mystery Science Theater 3000: Show #912 - The Screaming Skull (with the Gumby short “Robot Rumpus”) (29 Aug 1998) Movie: Show:
432. Window on Main Street: "The Return" (2 Oct 1961) What an unusual TV show. I guess the dramedy is not as new as I previously thought. I can also see why it did not succeed.
433. The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet: "The Jet Pilot" (13 Mar 1957) Ozzie manages to talk himself into becoming the first (very reluctant) civilian passenger in a F-100 Super Sabre jet fighter. Lots of good aviation footage.
434. The Honeymooners: "The Worry Wart" (7 Apr 1956)

9 Jun 2009
435. Batman: The Animated Series: "Harlequinade" (23 May 1994) (with commentary)
436. The Simpsons: "The Otto Show" (23 Apr 1992) (with commentary)
437. Doctor Who: "The Armageddon Factor, Part Five" (17 Feb 1979)
438. Dark Shadows: Episode 300 (18 Aug 1967) While Juila's treatments start to have an effect on Barnabas, Burke proposes marriage to Victoria.

10 Jun 2009
439. Alfred Hitchcock Presents: "Portrait of Jocelyn" (8 Apr 1956) An episode with a great twist... which happens to be spoiled on the DVD menu screen.
440. Doctor Who: "The Armageddon Factor, Part Six" (24 Feb 1979) And so the Key to Time saga ends not with a bang but with a whimper.
441. Dark Shadows: Episode 301 (21 Aug 1967) Barnabas and Burke are now bitter rivals.
442. Gunsmoke: "No Indians" (8 Dec 1956) What's believed to be Pawnee raids turns out to be something much more brutal and nasty.
443. Dragnet: "The Big September Man" (8 May 1952) A murder investigation leads to a religious fanatic. Lots of Jack Webb's trademark rat-a-tat-tat monotone from the actors.

11 Jun 2009
444. Doctor Who: "Destiny of the Daleks, Episode One" (1 Sep 1979)
445. Dark Shadows: Episode 302 (22 Aug 1967)

12 Jun 2009
446. Doctor Who: "Destiny of the Daleks, Episode Two" (8 Sep 1979)
447. Dark Shadows: Episode 303 (23 Aug 1967)
448. I Love Lucy: "Lucy Cries Wolf" (18 Oct 1954)
449. The Andy Griffith Show: "Jailbreak" (5 Feb 1962) Guest-starring another old familiar face from television's past, Allan Melvin (Sgt. Hacker from Gomer Pyle and Sam the butcher from The Brady Bunch.)
450. The Avengers: "Dead Man’s Treasure" (19 Oct 1967)
451. Hawaii Five-0: "Samurai" (17 Oct 1968) Guest-starring Ricardo Montalban as, of all things, a Japanese-American crime lord. Good thing the script is strong enough to overcome the miscasting.

13 Jun 2009
452. Doctor Who: "Destiny of the Daleks, Episode Three" (15 Sep 1979)
453. Dark Shadows: Episode 304 (24 Aug 1967)
454. Get Smart: "It Takes One to Know One" (7 Jan 1967) Hymie falls in love with robotic KAOS agent Octavia.
455. Danger Man: "A Man to Be Trusted" (15 Dec 1964) A listless and talky episode set in the West Indies, which proves you can make voodoo boring.
456. The Man From U.N.C.L.E.: "The Bridge of Lions Affair, Part II" (11 Feb 1966) An interesting observation -- the head of Robby the Robot was used as part of the rejuvenation machine. Poor Robby.

14 Jun 2009
457. The Benny Hill Show: Episode 7 (27 Jan 1971) Highlight of the episode was a sendup of "Top of the Pops" with parodies of Jimmy Savile, Roger Whittaker, Bobbie Gentry and Roy Orbison (but it helps know who they are to get the jokes.)
458. Mystery Science Theater 3000: Show #913 - Quest of the Delta Knights (26 Sep 1998) Movie: Show:

15 Jun 2009
459. Doctor Who: "Destiny of the Daleks, Episode Four" (22 Sep 1979)
460. Dark Shadows: Episode 305 (25 Aug 1967) Sarah shows David the hidden room in the Collins mausoleum.
461. I Love Lucy: "The Matchmaker" (25 Oct 1954)
462. Gunsmoke: "Spring Term" (15 Dec 1956) Guest-starring two actors I first saw on Star Trek: Harry Townes (from "The Return of the Archons," and a Huntsville native) and Stanley Adams (Cyrano Jones from "The Trouble with Tribbles")

16 Jun 2009
463. Doctor Who: "City of Death, Part One" (29 Sep 1979)
464. Dark Shadows: Episode 306 (28 Aug 1967)
465. Dragnet: "The Big Phone Call" (22 May 1952) Another tense interrogation episode guest-starring The Outer Limits' Control Voice, Vic Perrin, as a suspected jewel thief.
466. Window on Main Street: "The Teacher (9 Oct 1961)
467. The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet: "The Editor" (27 Mar 1957)

17 Jun 2009
468. Dark Shadows: Episode 307 (29 Aug 1967)
469. Doctor Who: "City of Death, Part Two" (6 Oct 1979)

18 Jun 2009
470. Doctor Who: "City of Death, Part Three" (13 Oct 1979)
471. Dark Shadows: Episode 308 (30 Aug 1967)

19 Jun 2009
472. Doctor Who: "City of Death, Part Four" (20 Oct 1979)
473. Dark Shadows: Episode 309 (31 Aug 1967)
474. The Andy Griffith Show: "A Medal for Opie" (12 Feb 1962) One of those great Andy/Opie episodes, this time on good sportmanship.

20 Jun 2009
475. Rocky & Bullwinkle: "Wailing Whale, Parts 3 & 4"
476. Rocky & Bullwinkle: "Wailing Whale, Parts 5 & 6"
477. The Adventures of Batman & Robin: "Bane" (10 Sep 1994)
478. The Adventures of Batman & Robin: "Second Chance" (17 Sep 1994)
479. The Benny Hill Show: Episode 8 (24 Feb 1971) Featuring two TV parodies -- one of ITC's action shows (Undercover Sanitary Inspector), and one of BBC arts programming (Omnibust).
480. Mystery Science Theater 3000: Show #1001 - Soultaker (11 Apr 1999) Movie: Show: The one featuring the return of Joel Hodgson and Frank Conniff.

21 Jun 2009
481. Doctor Who: "The Creature from the Pit, Part One" (27 Oct 1979)

22 Jun 2009
482. Doctor Who: "The Creature from the Pit, Part Two" (3 Nov 1979)
483. Dark Shadows: Episode 310 (1 Sep 1967) While David is looking for Sarah in the Collins mausoleum, he is almost caught by Barnabas and Willie.
484. Window on Main Street: "A Doctor Comes to Town" (16 Oct 1961) The comedy and drama are a bit better balanced in this story of a young doctor trying to overcome his reputation as a teenage prankster.

23 Jun 2009
485. Doctor Who: "The Creature from the Pit, Part Three" (10 Nov 1979)
486. Dark Shadows: Episode 311 (4 Sep 1967) David is trapped in the Collins mausoleum.
487. Get Smart: "Someone Down Here Hates Me" (14 Jan 1967)
488. Hawaii Five-0: "...And They Painted Daisies On His Coffin" (7 Nov 1968) Guest-starring Gavin MacLeod (Murray Slaughter and Captain Stubing) as a sweaty drug dealer named... Big Chicken?!?!
489. The Man From U.N.C.L.E.: "The Foreign Legion Affair" (18 Feb 1966) A pastiche of Beau Geste, The Four Feathers and other desert adventure tales. Not bad, but you can see the rot starting to set in.

24 Jun 2009
490. Doctor Who: "The Creature from the Pit, Part Four" (17 Nov 1979) This serial is surprisingly better than its reputation would have you believe.
491. Dark Shadows: Episode 312 (5 Sep 1967) As the search for David continues, Barnabas is interrupted while trying to put the bite on Victoria.

25 Jun 2009
492. Doctor Who: "Nightmare of Eden, Part One" (24 Nov 1979)
493. Dark Shadows: Episode 313 (6 Sep 1967)

26 Jun 2009
494.
Doctor Who:  "Nightmare of Eden, Part Two" (1 Dec 1979)
495.  Dark Shadows:  Episode 314 (7 Sep 1967)
496.  I Love Lucy:  "Mr. & Mrs. TV Show" (preempted 1 Nov 1954, broadcast 11 Apr 1955)
497.  The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet:  "Ricky the Drummer" (10 Apr 1957)  One thing I like about this show is its mixing of fiction and reality.  In this episode, Ozzie reminisces on being a bandleader (which he actually was back in the '30s and '40s) and Ricky gets up on a bandstand to sing "I'm Walking" (which was his first single.)
498.  Gunsmoke:  "Poor Pearl" (22 Dec 1956)  Guest-starring Denver Pyle as a love-struck farmer in a tragic love triangle.  Written by Sam Peckinpah and directed by Andrew V. McLaglen.
499.  Dragnet:  "The Big Casing" (5 Jun 1952)  Joe Friday investigates a domestic shooting.  But is it suicide... or murder?

27 Jun 2009
500.  Rocky & Bullwinkle:  "Wailing Whale, Parts 7 & 8"
501.  Gatchaman:  "The Invisible Demon" (8 Apr 1973) (Japanese and English soundtracks)
502.  The Benny Hill Show:  Episode 9 (24 Mar 1971)

28 Jun 2009
503.  Mystery Science Theater 3000:  Show #1002 - Girl in Gold Boots (18 Apr 1999) Movie:   Show:   Take a walk on the sleazy side of the '60s.
504.  Window on Main Street:  "The Chambermaid" (23 Oct 1961)
505.  The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet:  "Ricky's Big Night" (6 Nov 1957)  Ricky pretends to be a college fratenity member.  And the creation of a teen idol continues as he sings "Honeycomb" and "Boppin' the Blues."  He's like a little kid trying to wear Elvis' clothes.

29 Jun 2009
506.  Doctor Who:  "Nightmare of Eden, Part Three" (8 Dec 1979)
507.  Dark Shadows:  Episode 315 (8 Sep 1967)  Sarah shows David how to get out of the mausoleum... and runs right into Barnabas.
508.  I Love Lucy:  "Ricky's Movie Offer" (8 Nov 1954)
509.  Gunsmoke:  "Cholera" (29 Dec 1956)  "Whiskey's for drinking, and water's for fighting."  But no one wins this fight.
510.  Dragnet:  "The Big Seventeen" (6 Nov 1952)  The tragic story of a teenage drug dealer.  Complete with Chesterfield cigarette commercials touting its "health" benefits.

30 Jun 2009
511.  Doctor Who:  "Nightmare of Eden, Part Four" (15 Dec 1979)  Another Season 17 serial that's better than the conventional wisdom would have you believe.
512.  Dark Shadows:  Episode 316 (11 Sep 1967)  Barnabas planned to kill David, believing Sarah has revealed Barnabas' secret.
513.  The Andy Griffith Show:  "Barney and the Choir" (19 Feb 1962)  Everyone bends over backwards to keep Barney from realizing he can't carry a tune in a bucket.
514.  The Andy Griffith Show:  "Guest of Honor" (26 Feb 1962)  Jay Novello guest-stars as a thief accidentally made the guest of honor of Mayberry's Founder's Day festivities.
515.  The Avengers:  "You Have Just Been Murdered" (26 Oct 1967)   An extortionist with a twist.

Even odder...the final scene, in the final black and white episode, is what I would call a Friday cliffhanger...Maggie showing up at the Blue Whale, in a daze, and collapsing when she gets a glimpse of Barnabas.

The final moments of the first color episode are absolutely boring in comparison...certainly not the way that Dark Shadows typically closed out a week.
