3 May 2009

5 May 2009
323. Doctor Who: "The Pirate Planet, Part Two" (7 Oct 1978)

324. Dark Shadows: Episode 276 (17 Jul 1967)

325. Honey West: "A Stitch in Crime" (26 Nov 1965)

326. Up Pompeii!: "The Peace Treaty" (12 Oct 1970)

A reworking of Aristophanes' play Lysistrata. How often do you get that in a sitcom?

A young boy starts manifesting a poltergeist, and Department 7 attempts to harness his abilities for the Ministry of Defense... with horrific consequences.

338. The Benny Hill Show: Episode 3 (4 Feb 1970)

339. Honey West: "Invitation to Limbo" (17 Dec 1965)

Since it deals with corporate espionage and hypnosis, this is the most spy-show-like episode yet. Guest-starring a very young looking Wayne Rogers.
340. The Wild Wild West: "The Night of the Cut-throats" (17 Nov 1967)

Another lackluster third season episode with no fantastical elements outside of Artemus' MacGyver-like inventions. The pedestrian plot: an ex-con plots revenge on the town that sent him to prison by forming an army of outlaws to burn the place to ground. Guest-starring Jackie Coogan and Beverly Garland.
11 May 2009

16 May 2009
357. Gatchaman: "A Critical Moment for the Science Ninja Team" (Japanese soundtrack) (11 Feb 1973)

What could have been a good episode marred by some of the characters behaving uncharacteristicly.

Featuring a painful performance by a post-stroke Howard McNear.
359. Adventures of Superman: "All That Glitters" (28 Apr 1958)

The one where Jimmy dreams that he and Lois gain super powers. Superman/Clark Kent is mostly on the sidelines here, because George Reeves was directing. Since the episodes he directed were some of the best of this season, it makes his death even more tragic.

Dr. Hoffman discovers that Barnabas has no reflection.
23 May 2009
378. Eddie in August (3 Jun 1970)

A half-hour silent film made for Thames Television by Benny Hill. I am coming to believe that Hill was the last great silent comedian.

380. Doctor Who: "The Power of Kroll, Part Four" (13 Jan 1979)

Viewing was a little light this weekend. I took time to finish all the extras on the Perry Mason: 50th Anniversary Edition, so I saw clips from CBS Nightwatch, Person to Person and Stump the Stars, along with Raymond Burr's screen test... for Hamilton Burger!
26 May 2009

391. Dark Shadows: Episode 293 (9 Aug 1967)

392. Honey West: "King of the Mountain" (14 Jan 1966)

One of the joys of vintage television is seeing familiar faces in unfamilar surroundings. For example, this episode guest-starred the ubiquitous David Opatoshu, Dennis Patrick (Jason McGuire on Dark Shadows), and old Jaws and Eegah himself, Richard Kiel.
393. The Omega Factor: "Out of Body, Out of Mind" (1 Aug 1979)

Tom's brother Michael is recovering, but starts having out of body experiences, which causes him to discover that his friend Hamish Mboto is being programmed to kill an African leader.

402. Father Knows Best: "24 Hours in Tyrantland" (1959 episode produced for a US Treasury Savings Bond drive)

While it barely works as a heavy-handed piece of anti-Communist propaganda, as an episode of FKB... not so much.
403. The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet: "The Reading Room" (20 Feb 1957)

404. The Honeymooners: "Head of the House" (31 Mar 1956)

Doctor Who: Flight Through Eternity
