Today I watched the following
Bonaza, season 1- "The Stranger"
Touched by an Angel, season 1- "The Southbound Bus" (the pilot episode)
Mod Squad, season 1- "Find Tara Chapman" (which had a very young Della Reese guesting as a singer)
Dr Quinn, season 1- "The Healing"
and 2 episodes of Gunsmoke, season 1- "Hack Prine" and "Cooter"

I enjoyed that episode quite a lot. And it was quite a treat seeing her in that role.

I've been noticing quite a few guest stars on The Mod Squad that later went on to bigger roles (Geoff Deuel, Tyne Daly, and Carolyn Jones come to mind).

Re: 2009 TRACK THE TV EPISODES YOU WATCH

I remember a MOD SQUAD episode from when I was a kid which was pretty powerful, but I don't know the name of it, or which season it's from. I think Link went undercover to pretend he was mentally disabled or something, and he undergoes electric shock therapy...?

Re: 2009 TRACK THE TV EPISODES YOU WATCH

I finished Emergency! - Season 4. The final episode "905-Wild" was very interesting. I guess it served as sort of a backdoor pilot for a new Jack Webb series that combined Animal Control with the aspects of a show like Emergency!. It had a very young Mark Harmon as one of the Animal Control officers. But, I guess the network never picked up the show. To bad it looked like something that might have been fun to watch. Maybe someone who remembers something on this can touch on it better than I have.

Re: 2009 TRACK THE TV EPISODES YOU WATCH

22 Jan 2009
45. Dark Shadows: Episode 202 (4 Apr 1967)

23 Jan 2009
46. Dark Shadows: Episode 203 (5 Apr 1967)
47. The Benny Hill Show: Episode 32 (30 May 1978) One of the funny things I've seen in a long time. The interview with the two Irishmen visiting London had me rolling. Whatever happened to silly comedy?

24 Jan 2009
48. The Benny Hill Show: Episode 33 (26 Dec 1978) Featuring a surprising, but dead-on, parody of Bob Dylan.
49. Doctor Who: "Planet of Fire, Part One" (23 Feb 1984)

25 Jan 2009
50. Mystery Science Theater 3000: Show #706 - Laserblast (18 May 1996) Movie: Show: One of the best riffs in this episode described the movie as having undergone a process called "tension extraction." The movie is painfully slack and dull, as if everyone involved was on something (and since it was made in SoCal in the '70s, it's a reasonable assumption.) Perfect 'Bot fodder.
51. Doctor Who: "Planet of Fire, Part Two" (24 Feb 1984)

My tally.

Didn't get in as much viewing as I would have liked. Spent one evening struggling with a new piece of hardware for my computer. Also attended an opera and two symphony concerts this weekend.

Since there isn't much information about it, I see it as similiar to the quick recastings of Sam Evans and Matthew Morgan that happened in the early days of the show. I guess Dark Shadows' producers knew where their story was going, and quickly realized that James Hall just didn't have the range needed for Willie Loomis. Hall's Loomis just comes across as a standard creepy thug.

One thing I did notice is that Willie's relationship to Jason McGuire is not all that different from the one he will have with Barnabas. Definitely some masochistic/submissive tendencies there...

"905-Wild" certainly looked like a pilot and Webb actually had an earlier single season show on NBC in the 1956-57 season titled "Noah's Ark" which was the story of two veterinarians working at a veterinary hospital. Paul Burke ("Naked City," "12 O'Clock High) starred. I suspect that it was an attempt by Webb to see if there was any interest on the part of the network to revive interest in shows where there was interaction between humans and animals. Producer Ivan Tors had a certain amount of success with shows like "Flipper," "Daktari," "Cowboy in Africa," and "Gentle Ben" in the mid to late 1960s.

Joe,

I can tell you that such an episode as you describe is not from season one or from the first half of season two. These are the only sets I own thus far.

Tim,

Yeah, that's probably it. Matthew I and Sam I bit the dust fairly early. Burke I was fired for a reason that is known. Unfortunately, I would have rather have had Burke I (Mitchell Ryan) remain for the entire series, but it was not to be.

Yep. I think this may be why I was very happy to see Jason killed off when (and how) he was. That was a wonderful moment in the series. I didn't take the threats from Barnabas toward Willie as seriously, since he really did need Willie to remain around. But, those tendencies are definitely there.

26 Jan 2009
52. Doctor Who: "Planet of Fire, Part Three" (1 Mar 1984)
53. Doctor Who: "Planet of Fire, Part Four" (2 Mar 1984) Some impressive location work in this story, but just a bit dull.
54. Dark Shadows: Episode 204 (6 Apr 1967) Willie Loomis being a real slimeball to Carolyn and Vicki. Feel like I need a bath now.

My tally.

Good Stuff Bob, yeah i definately could see it as an attempt to revive the Animal type shows of the past. In using Emegency! as a way to guage interest. I assume it would have been a very cost effective way of doing a pilot of sorts back then. You would think a guy like Webb, would have had more pull to get the network to go with this. But I guess they just were not interested. It is always interesting looking back at things like this.

Re: 2009 TRACK THE TV EPISODES YOU WATCH

27 Jan 2009
55. The Tomorrow People: "Monsoon Man, Part Four" (1 Mar 1994)
56. The Tomorrow People: "Monsoon Man, Part Five" (8 Mar 1994)
57. Dark Shadows: Episode 205 (7 Apr 1967) Willie Loomis discovers the portrait of Barnabas Collins (where previously only a mirror hung.) The episode ends with the portrait's eyes glowing and a loud heartbeat on the soundtrack. And so the countdown begins...

My tally.

Some thoughts on The Tomorrow People: It may be heretical to say so, but I prefer the '90s revamp of the show to the original '70s version. In fact, I think it was the most successful reboot of a British show until the new Doctor Who premiered. It took what worked best from the original show, got rid of the strange (and slightly creepy) gay subtext, and spent the money required to exponentially raise the production values. The result was one of the better sci-fi shows of that decade.

However, "Monsoon Man" was the worst story of the run, and a throwback to the sillier material from the original show. I mean, really... a megalomaniacal cereal mogul finances a weather control machine so he can destroy the corn crop in the Midwest, ruin his competitors, and become "the king of corn flakes"? Seriously? Thankfully, the show never got this campy again.

Re: 2009 TRACK THE TV EPISODES YOU WATCH

One of the most enjoyable things about watching vintage shows is seeing soon to be famous actors getting their starts. I have recently watched the second episode of the Partridge Family which featured a very young Farrah Fawcett in a quick walk on, and a 1st season episode of That Girl that had Richard Dreyfuss in a bit part. Fun stuff.

Agreed. It's one of the more interesting things to watch for with the older shows. Keep your eye out for Mark Hamill (if you've not already seen him). And of course, Jodie Foster appears in the show as well. (BTW, in a previous post, I mentioned seeing Tyne Daly in an episode of The Mod Squad; there are countless others that have appeared in older shows over the years.) I think looking for where people got their start is often half the fun.

And in the FWIW department (it doesn't meet your criteria, as it is a reversal of sorts, in that a person starring in a film appeared in a television show afterward), Kim Karath and Nicholas Hammond were each in a different episode of The Brady Bunch. Each played one of the seven children in the 1965 film The Sound of Music.

Tim,

How I wished it had been Willie I that had gotten his clock cleaned. That would have been a sight (and well-deserved).

Agreed! I'm like a little kid, who points them out, and say "oooo, it's (so-and-so) from (TV show)".

I just caught up on the current season of 24, and managed to keep up with Burn Notice, Damages, Leverage, The Simpsons, and King of the Hill, and whenever I get the chance, I'll watch occasional episodes of The A-Team on Hulu.

Now I've just started on the current seasons of Chuck and CSI. Just in time for the season premiere of Chuck, because it's about to expire in 3 days online.

Re: 2009 TRACK THE TV EPISODES YOU WATCH

As we end January, what does everybody think they will do to continue their master lists? Keep adding to the master, or make a new post for February? I'm kinda undecided, but thinking of making a new post for February.

I have a rich U.N.C.L.E.
