21. Doctor Who: "The Trial of a Time Lord, Part Five" (4 Oct 1986)

My tally.
Some thoughts on The Beverly Hillbillies... Rewatching the first season for the first time in years, I'm noticing things that completely went over my head as a child. First, this season is structured as a serial. Each episode picks up where the last one left off. This is unusual for sitcoms, and must have been practically revolutionary in 1962. Even I Love Lucy wasn't this unified. Also, the Clampetts have a dignity about them that anchors all the crazy goings on that surround them. Finally, this show must have been my earliest exposure to the existence of silent film, since they used it as a running gag about how backward it was up in the Ozarks. In fact, they used clips from The Eagle starring Rudolph Valentino and Vilma Banky in the episode I just watched.

I usually schedule one episode of a show one night a week, with the exception of Doctor Who and Dark Shadows, which I watch five nights a week. And I've built an elaborate color-coded spreadsheet to keep track of my TV viewing. But you're not seeing the results at the moment, because, after doing this for two years, I decided I needed a break. So my viewing is more random while I focus on some other, more important activities for a few weeks.

Alternatively, you might want to rent some of the DVDs first to see if you like the show.
