Hi, my first post as you can see, I apologize ahead of time for my lack of knowledge in this area and will try not to confuse anyone or myself.
I've got an audio lag when using a Fibre Optic Audio cable...sorry, here's my setup:
-older sony tv, but is still HMDI (trinitron wega)
-sony hdx475 surround system
-ps3
Now, here's whats going on. I've got the ps3 hooked up to the tv with an HDMI cable. Thing is I can't get surround (5.1Dolby) with it, probably because the amp is hooked up to the tv with audio cables?(the only audio out on my tv appears to just be L and R audio) That's what I'm assuming for now. So I figured to go out and buy a Fibre Optic cable to be able to enjoy 5.1 surround. I did this and ran it right from the ps3 to the amp. Well it gave me 5.1 surround, but also gifted me with an audio lag. For example, in Call of Duty when I fire a gun, the sound is probably a half a second or so late. Recently I was told it could have been a defective cable, or a cheap brand. It was specifically for the ps3 (sony brand). So I got a new one, and while I was at it tried a different brand (Monster) and it's a lot better, almost perfect, but there is still a little lag.
So my questions are:
1- Is there any way with my setup I can get surround by using the HDMI cable for audio, not the fibre optic?
2- Is it common to have an audio lag using a fibre optic cable?
3- Is there a different brand I should use or anything else I should be doing different?
4- Any other tips/help would be great.
Thanks a lot!
