Mail.Recipient.MAPImail problem (WinXP)

I am running Mozilla Thunderbird but also require to run MS Outlook.

I like the SendTo feature in WinXP that you can right click a file and select "MailRecipient.MAPImail" and it (supposed to) open the default email client and automatically "attach" the file in a new message.

Tbird is my default email client but whenever I do this, it opens up a new message using MS Outlook.

I can't get it to automatically use Tbird. I know Tbird supports MAPI mail and I have had it work before.

I've checked my registry using regedt and made sure the keys for "default" is set properly and the DLL path is correct ("C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\mozMapi32.dll") but it still always opens up MS Outlook.

Anybody know how to fix this? Stupid MS hounds!

Re: Mail.Recipient.MAPImail problem (WinXP)

Jay, I'll have to dig in to my settings to see what I can come up with. I can right click on a file, select send to and have two choices:

Mail recipient which opens a new message in Thunderbird

Mail recipient using Microsoft Outlook which opens a new message in Outlook.

I use Outlook as my default mail client.

Re: Mail.Recipient.MAPImail problem (WinXP)

The only MailRecipient I have in the SendTo folder is

MailRecipient.MAPImail

Which I believe at one point did work correctly. But now only opens Outlook.

It is supposed to go to your default mail program, whatever dll is shown in the registry. I checked my registry based on some google sluething and all the paths seem to be correct and Tbird is my default mail program, yet it always starts up Outlooks "compose" thing.

I wonder if it would work if you could send me that file in the SendTo folder which i think is in Document and Settings//SendTo directory (it is a hidden folder)....

you can send it to

cycleslug at yahoo.com and I can see if I stick that in my SendTo folder, check the properties and see if that works...

Jay, You've got mail.

Also you might check the open with properties of your MAPImail icon and see if it is set to open with Thunderbird.
