Re: It's Nehalem launch day!

It looks like the guys over in tradmark & branding have given it the "Core i7" name. Next-Generation Intel PC Chips to Carry Intel Core Name

IIRC I wrote some patent applications for Nehalem back in the day.

This story has some early price reference points.

Re: It's Nehalem launch day!

Thanks Dennis. So far the big guys don't seem to be hitting the mark here. I'd like a kickass graphics card paired with the middle CPU and a beefy power supply, and everything so far is well over $2k to get that, so will have to play it by ear. I'm tempted on the Dell $999 deal but still not sold.

Re: It's Nehalem launch day!

They changed it so the upgraded video card was only another $50 so I finally bit. I tossed in a couple of upgrades tho and I'm fairly happy with the final price:

Studio XPS - Studio XPS, Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1, 64-Bit
Total Price: $1,859.00

-- 6GB Tri-Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1066MHz - 6 DIMMs
-- Dell 24 inch Consumer蒂 S2409W Flat Panel, Adjustable Stand
-- 512MB ATI Radeon HD 4850
-- 750GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache
-- Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1, 64-Bit
-- Single Drive: Blu-ray Disc (BD) Combo (Reads BD and Writes to DVD/CD)

-- Integrated 10/1000 Ethernet

Subtotal: $1,319.67
Shipping and Handling: $29.99
Total: $1,444.14

Under $1450 after tax and shipping, including BluRay playback and got the Tri-channel memory by bumping it to 6 gigs. The bigger hard disk was probably the only real ripoff in the deal but I'd rather have the base system come with a big honking base drive for the OS and stuff and I will put all my media on other larger internal drives.
