Found this snake on my back patio. Anyone know what kind it is? I'm in Alabama if that helps.

Re: What kind of snake is this?

It fits the visual description of several Alabama snakes. It looks similar to a diamondback, a prairie kingsnake or a northern pine snake. You can see all three and several others here:

I agree. Either it wandered up to your patio on its own, or its mama laid some eggs at the bottom of a pile of leaves or grass clippings somewhere in your yard.

They can be relocated easily at this young age, but some black rat snakes instinctively mimic rattle snakes by coiling up and shaking their (non-rattling) tails when threatened, which can be rather scary when you try to capture them for relocation.

They can also mimic dogs. Don't let its barking fool you.

Neighbor is a werewolf who seal-coats driveways for a living.

Your basic non-poisonous constrictor rodent-eating snake (Rat, Pine, Bull, Corn, King, whatever... ). He's probably enjoying a mouse problem you may not even know you have. This guy is your friend.

It's the triangular headed snakes you've got to worry about-

Oh I know we have some mice running around. We had a few in the garage a few months ago but haven't seen any in awhile. That's exactly why i let this little guy go when the wife say "kill it."
