Culver City, CA (November 3, 2008) –Based on the best-selling novel by Monica Ali, winner of the London Film Festival and the San Sebastian International Film Festival and an official selection of the 2007 Toronto and Telluride Film Festivals, Brick Lane will be released on DVD on January 13, 2009, from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Directed by Sarah Gavron and starring Tannishtha Chatterjee, Satish Kausik and Christopher Simpson, this Sony Pictures Classics film will be available on DVD for an SLP of 28.96. Special features on the Brick Lane DVD will include cast and crew interviews and commentary with Sarah Gavron and Tannishtha Chatterjee.
Synopsis
A young Bangladeshi woman, Nazneem, arrives in 1980s London, leaving behind her beloved sister and home, for an arranged marriage and a new life. Trapped within the four walls of her flat in East London, and in a loveless marriage with the middle-aged Chanu, she fears her soul is quietly dying. Her sister Hasina, meanwhile, continues to live a carefree life back in Bangladesh, stumbling from one adventure to the next. Nazneen struggles to accept her lifestyle, and keeps her head down in spite of life’s blows, but she soon discovers that life cannot be avoided – and is forced to confront it the day that the hotheaded young Karim comes knocking at her door.
