HDMI upconversion question?

Do any receivers up-convert for hdmi in signals? Everything I have read the upconversion is only on component video, s-video, and composite video. Standard Def cable and the Sony 400 disc/dvd player that only upconverts to 1080i is the reason I ask. They are both hdmi outs, but in a lower signal. So to get a 1080p up-coverted signal do I have to only use component video, s-video, and composite video? I would prefer to use HDMI.

Thank you

Re: HDMI upconversion question?

I looked at a few owners manuals on-line it it appears to be only analog signals that are up-converted to 1080p. I bet it has to do with copyright protection.
