The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

"LP" in the RoundUp table means a store’s Sunday flyer says "Low Price". That means I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, as always, Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

My gosh, how did Almost Famous in BD slip under my radar? That's a must buy for me.

EDIT: Oh, because like you said, it's a UK All Region Blu-Ray pressing. Whatever that means. Hopefully it works on my American PS3.

Thanks guys!

All my "New Release" lists had a Nov. 9th release. All my retailers' lists had a November 8th release. You figure it out.

Exactly. Here's Amazon's description. Should work fine, though, Greg. I ordered the UK Steelbook release of Sweeney Todd months ago and it has worked terrific on my Panny BD-10. My first import ever (DVD or BD!).

Re: Weekly RoundUp 11-4-2008

at my BBV we have it as sunday, so we can't sell it 'till then.

I was thinking the same as Greg for Almost Famous, I'm pretty sure that's a foreign release that is being sold through Amazon and is a non region coded blu-ray.

edit: I guess i was typing this as you and Greg were posting those posts.

amazon's listing for Spiderwoman is confusing too.
there are 2 listing with 2 different prices.

No question about it. They say as much in their description.

Probably because amazon was supposed to have had it a few weeks ago as an exclusive. You are probably seeing both listings. There were reports at the time, however, that they didn't get any in stock (at least at release date of the exclusive). If anyone was interested in ordering from them, I'd just order the cheaper listing.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 11-4-2008

Nothing for me on the 4th. I'm going to get Kung Fu Panda w/Secrets of the Furious 5 from Amazon since it's $22.99 which is only $1.60 more than the single disc from BB or CC when you add tax to $19.99. To get free shipping I added them to the 11th release of Dr. Syn & Chronological Donald 4. Thanks as always for the roundup.

The extended Waterworld would be a sure-buy for me if it was Blu... I still may get it on DVD.

The Veronica Mars connection to that film was astounding to me, when I realized who played the girl. Well, "realized" versus imdb'd it, either way...

That's odd, I ordered it at the beginning of the exclusivity window and got my copy with no problem. BTW, it's Kiss of the Spider Woman.

Tony's right. Almost Famous is not orderable at Amazon. Boo!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 11-4-2008

A Christmas Story UCE on Blu is on order. So is Batman TAS...but that was cancelled on Thursday night (gggggrrrrr....) so I may need to find it somewhere else. The Apes set is mighty tempting, but I don't know if I can justify it or not right now. And I already have Shrek the Halls and the new Waterworld disc, so...it could be a light week or a heavy week. Just haven't decided yet.

LOL

I know. It's a sickness. I can't believe I'm considering buying ANYTHING at all. I have a ton of movies I've not even watched or even unwrapped. I need help.

I must have this Ape set in BD too. Never bought it before, so at least I have an excuse.

Why can't we have a US BD release of Almost Famous? Is it coming soon?

That would be correct, Ken. A Japanese pressing.

I thought some people would be interested in knowing about these opportunities...but maybe they're too confusing and I should just leave them alone.

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

And now you "need" them in high-definition. Makes all kinds of sense to me, Ric...in a sick, twisted way!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 11-4-2008

Does anybody know if the Get Smart: Complete Series set is the same as the TimeLife version, with all the special features, or is it bare bones?

I must have this Ape set in BD too. Never bought it before, so at least I have an excuse.

Why can't we have a US BD release of Almost Famous? Is it coming soon?

I'd be curious to know... the folks that are triple dipping on titles... do you have families with children, mortgages, second mortgages, car payments, college to pay for, a 401K bludgeoned by the recent downturn? I'm to the point now where there has to be an awful lot offered to double dip on a title, especially when I'm finding a lot of upconverted sd-dvds looking so good on the new players for WAY less. I'd be curious if this is going to have a major effect on the industry. I'm a guy who bought the original SW Trilogy Definitive Collection on LD and have a closet full of those box sets. Don't get me wrong, I still find myself looking here every week, but it's a lot harder to pull the trigger on those "must have" double & triple dip titles these days. Must.... have.... self... control.... Please.... help.. me.......

I guess this will be my third trip with Apes in some form (2 disc original, box set, BD), so I'll take a stab.

No children, no mortgage (bf's house is paid off), both cars 100% paid for, we're both out of college, the bf's maxed out his IRA for the year, close to his 401(k) limit...same for me. Money goes into my two IRA's and ING savings account on a weekly basis, too.

My parents always taught me to budget and spend frugally. That's why I can have weeks where I plop $200 on movies (two weeks ago) and really not think twice about it.

David: Welcome to the club (not a club we want to belong to, mind you).

I have always said in the past that readers of the RoundUp would be amazed at how few new titles I buy each week. Unlike Dave Lambert (the previous RoundUp author) who started compiling the thread as an extension of his own buying habits, I compile the thread mostly to know where the deals are and what the trends are within the industry. Easily, the bulk of my purchases are used.

But even those purchases have been scaled way back with my second child now in college and other economic issues at work in my household.

That's okay, though (it HAS to be)...I've got a backlog queue of films to catch up on.

One thing I found here a loooooong time ago is that there is a wide variety of economic situations among the members of the Home Theater Forum. It is a VERY diverse group indeed.

I would never capitalize "the" in a title, unless it's the first word.
me neither, don't know why I did it this time.

Also seems that BBV just got the memo.
Panda will be on Saturday here too.
