Do all the new BD+ variations break BDs?

it seams almost everyday a new disc comes out, especially from fox, they have playback problems. personally i think the problem is with bd+ copy protection. every time they make a change to bd+ we get problems. the same thing happened with cds as sony forced their new cd copy protection and broke made many cds unusable. heck, even new dvds with their new copy protections result in useless garbarge as people cannot play them.

it get's to a point where it become absurd...

well, the current bond films, planet of the apes have playback problems on some players. i doubt it's on all films faulty authoring. copy protection has been known for a long time that it can create playback problems.

re: Do all the new BD+ variations break BDs?

OK, I can still can't figure out what the title to this thread was supposed to be, even after reading the thread.

Do all the new BD+ forms brake BDs?
"Brake" was obviously meant to be "break" ("braking" being the thing you do when you cause a car to stop). But what was "forms" supposed to be?

On the subject itself, more specifics would help. "Some players" doesn't tell us much. I've used exclusively Panasonic players (first a BD-10 and now a BD-50), and I have yet to encounter a disc that won't play.

re: Do all the new BD+ variations break BDs?

whoops, you're right michael. there was a typo

yes i mean break and with forms i mean variations.

as for the player problems: i had problems with the bond on my htpc using arsoft totalmediaplayer. i also read that some sony players like the ps3 have problems with some of the bonds.

at the end i have no doubt that a new version of bd+ can result in a unplayable disc especially on older players.

Got it. I entered your revision as the thread title.

I suspect all or most such situations can be remedied with firmware updates.

Re: Do all the new BD+ variations break BDs?

Well... the BD+ aspect is basically very unhealthy.
It forces the player to play a script off the individual BD. Like if your e-mail client would play an attched .exe file before opening every e-mail (without any means of you to prevent it).

I call that unhealthy, because you the user has no say about the resulting program. It can put restrictions on the possibility to play the movie, and it can also contain errors or simply be incompatible with a specific player's software. Or, if not from a trusty source, even be malicious.
It could perform little tricks like displaying a filthy or scary image on your screen. But much more seriously: the script language has the power to render your player permanently inoperative.

Together with the internet connection it's pure dynamite.
