Culver City, Calif. (XX, 2008) - Sony Pictures Home Entertainment releases the cult fantasy film MirrorMask on high definition Blu-ray Disc on November 18, 2008 for the SRP of $ 28.95. From the imaginations of Neil Gaiman (Beowulf, Stardust), Dave McKean (N[eon]); and The Jim Henson Company (The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth) comes the surrealist fairytale MirrorMask, a story of Helena (Stephanie Leonidas - “Beneath the Skin,” “Dracula”), a 15 year-old budding artist and circus performer who is struggling to find comfort amidst her mother’s illness. Her inventive mind takes her to a dreamlike world where she must rescue a world thrown out of balance. MirrorMask is a spectacle, a fantasy and a Dadaist examination of the human condition.
MirrorMask synopsis
The White Queen sleeps and will not wake. Black shadows have fallen across her kingdom. The balance between Dark and Light is broken and only the MIRRORMASK can restore it. So Helena, a stranger in a strange land, embarks on an epic quest to find the missing charm before darkness envelops the Dreamworld forever. Written by award-winning fantasy writer Neil Gaiman, MIRRORMASK is a phantasmagorical treat for the eyes and mind, a wondrous blend of live action and CG animation, where strange, magical creatures dwell in a fantasy world of unbridled imagination and scope, as told through the spectacular, cutting-edge visuals of designer/director Dave McKean.
MirrorMask is co-written by Neil Gaiman (Stardust, Beowulf) and Dave McKean (N[eon]); directed by McKean; produced by Martin G. Baker (The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz), Lisa Henson (The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth), Simon Moorhead and Michael Polis; and stars Stephanie Leonidas (“Beneath the Skin”, “Dracula”), Jason Barry (Honor, The Still Life), Rob Brydon (“Little Britain,” “Gavin & Stacey”) and Gina McKee (And When Did You Last See Your Father).
