Re: TCFHE Press Release: Fox and MGM honor Black History Month

Aren't most of these previosly available? I miss the good old days when MGM used to hornor th with some "Soul Cinema" installments. When are they gonna release SUGAR HILL (1974)? Again, the Lion Sleeps Tonight!

I am wondering what happened to All The Young men which featured Sidney Poitier and the late Alan Ladd.

Re: TCFHE Press Release: Fox and MGM honor Black History Month

I can hardly believe it... what a perfect opportunity for Fox to have released one of the finest films about the African American experience ever... SOUNDER (1972) with Cicley Tyson and Paul Winfield. This movie turns up on the Fox Movie channel occasionally with a 2.35:1 ratio but has never been released to DVD (and wasn't on laser disc, either). Maybe the 2003 Disney remake is good (I haven't seen it), but I can't imagine it having the emotional resonance of the original, which was lovingly directed by Martin Ritt. Come on, Fox, what the hell? You've given us many other DVDs of less well-remembered catalog titles such as A HIGH WIND IN JAMAICA and THE MEPHISTO WALTZ, and we are all eternally grateful... but why has this beautiful movie been so long neglected? Anyone listening?

SOUNDER is being released Nov. 25, by Koch Video (don't know how it wound up there).
