The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

"LP" in the RoundUp table means a store’s Sunday flyer says "Low Price". That means I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, as always, Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

Wow... a special edition of Capricorn One? One of my friends and I watched that over and over and over again on the Z Channel when we were kids. I watched it again a few years ago and still liked it. I think I'll have to pick up a copy of the new SE and watch it yet again!

This isn't going to be a cheap week Blu-Ray-wise for me. There's Poltergeist, American Gangster, Casino, Eastern Promises and of course The Ultimate Matrix Collection. I was going to buy the Matrix Collection from Amazon, but apparently Best Buy is going to be cheaper than them. Who knew?

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-14-2008

Correct me if I'm wrong, but where is the logic in buying the "Gangster 3 Movie Collection" on Blu-ray as a set from either Best Buy or Circuit City? If I buy each movie individually, I save money. Does the boxed set come with some special incentives? Otherwise, I say, "Forgetaboutit!"

As far as I know there's nothing special about the Gangster movie collection (other than the fact that those three titles come in a box.)

I also find the price spike for it at Best Buy and Circuit City a bit baffling. Even if they were $25 a disc you would still be saving more if you bought them separately. Also the price for it at Amazon is pretty much the same if you were to buy them separately.

Just kidding, but still a pretty big deal that this is finally coming to dvd,I cant wait!!! Also getting the march of the wooden soldiers remastered dvd .Now, if they would only release the WPIX holiday yule log on dvd , that would make for an awesome triple feature !!!! Yep, this was the week I'd been dreading. Very expensive (Matrix, Indy, Constantine and Casino on BD for sure, contemplating American Gangster and Eastern Promises as well).

Thanks for the update as always! I'm surprised that BB came in $10 under Amazon on Matrix, but I'm not about to look a gift horse in the mouth!

Yeah, the BB price on the Matrix Collection is impressive.

Adrian,
No you are thinking of Pouldergeist, where reclaimed Dutch farmland gets haunted.....

Fred Meyer has Indy Jones IV for $19.99 which includes a free box of "Crunch 'n Munch". Not quite as inspired as their sale on the Simpsons movie which included a half dozen donuts.

Looks like Amazon dropped their Matrix price to $74.95 to counter Best Buy's price. Even though they don't charge tax in CA, my need for "instant gratification" dictates that they have to really beat BB's price in order for me to purchase from them, especially since I have to pay for shipping.

Only Indy 4 on BD for me this week.

I picked it up this morning at Target. I was expecting the "80 page hard cover booklet" to be a separate item. It's not a separate item - it is the "collectible packaging".

First of all, the hard cover book is a nice quality book - very sturdy cover and heavy-weight pages. Secondly, the book slips into the cardboard sleeve, and only the spine of the book shows. Lastly, the acrylic 2-disc holder is adhered to the inside cover of the book. Here are some pics of the packaging / book (click on images for larger versions):

I'm glad I picked it up at Target for the "collectible packaging". Though I am curious about the Indy 4 BD packaging at other retailers.

Jeff:

Is the height of the packaging taller than a standard blu-ray case?

It almost looks like the dimensions of a SD amaray case.
