Newbie needs Onkyo GXW-5.1 set-up help and compatibility advice

I recently purchased a used Onkyo GXW-5.1 digital theater station for $20 and a YAMAHA HTR-5250 Natural Sound Home Theater Receiver for $25. I am new to A/V and have no idea how to connect anything to my COMCAST Motorola DCT3400 High-Definition DVR Set-Top Box to receive 5.1 surround sound.

My other components are a new SANYO DP32648 32" LCD HDTV and a Samsung DVD-V9800 DVD/VCR Combo.

I only have enough money remaining for cables and adaptors if needed. I NEED TO MAKE THIS WORK.. I really don't understand the connections and appeal to you for help CONNECTING WHAT I HAVE.

PLEASE HELP!

Re: Newbie needs Onkyo GXW-5.1 set-up help and compatibility advice

The GXW-5.1 isn't designed to work with a receiver. It's designed to work with a "source" devise like a cable box, dvd player or game consol.

To use it with your Comcast cable box, simply connect it to the GXW with an optical cable. The GXW has powered speakers and a Dolby Digital processer inside. If it has more than one optical input, use the other one for your dvd player. Hook the cable box straight to the tv with component cables. Hope this helps. If not, let us know what happened and we'll try again!
