The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

"LP" in the RoundUp table means a store’s Sunday flyer says "Low Price". That means I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, as always, Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

The Specials

--Phew! LOTS going on this week! LOTS of releases, LOTS of deals!

**Be Careful! You Don’t Mess with the Zohan (1-disc) is being released, this week, in both Rated and Unrated versions! Get the one that’s right for you!

--Some things I can’t explain this week: all my new-release lists and BB & CC show the 30th Anniversary release of Halloween to be out this week. Amazon says next week. Also, BB’s flyer and bb.com differ by a buck on their price for the BD of Sleeping Beauty. For some reason I think “Four Jills in a Jeep” is a really cool title for a film. And I never knew there was a live TV recording of the mid-80s revival of Mr. Roberts starring Robert Hayes, Charles Durning, Marilu Henner, Kevin Bacon & Howard Hesseman. And, there are these two releases—SEs of the 1936 Last of the Mohicans and 1939 The Man in the Iron Mask—which keep showing up, with very little info, by an outfit called “Firecake Entertainment.” Buyer beware. And, I also never knew there was ever a 1989 film titled “Oversexed Rugsuckers from Mars.” Really. Never.

--One thing I think is REALLY COOL this week: the fact that Disney has included a 1-disc SD-DVD of Sleeping Beauty in with the Blu-ray release. That’s terrific for a whole lot of reasons!

Does the blu-ray of Sleeping Beauty have all the extras that the sd-dvd does? And is the Plat. Ed. sd-dvd really any better than the special ed. dvd that came out in '03?

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-7-2008

Does anyone know if ALL the Sleeping Beauty Blurays come with a standard DVD of the movie. I don't have bluray yet but if I could get the movie WITH the standard DVD I would buy it so I'd have the BD for future use. Amazon lists having it, but a lot of the other online site don't mention the extra disc. I can get it cheaper on other sites but don't want to take the chance that the standard DVD might not be included.

I am pretty sure that all BluRay versions come with an SD-DVD version as well. Obvioulsy before you buy a BluRay,read the box carefully to make sure

As far as I know the BD has all the bonus features the SD has, plus a more indepth "Cine-explore" commentary type thing.

I don't know if the new Platinum version has any substantive extras that the '03 "Masterpiece Edition" (which I thought at the time was great). As far as I know the transfer on the DVD will be different (an SD Version of what we're getting on Bluray) it has been reframed with less tight cropping, revealing more of the full image, supposedly according to Disney its the first time anyone has been able to see the entire image as it was animated.

I wish I could. To get it at the cheapest price I'd have to order online. Amazon is the only online site that mentions the inclusion of the SD-DVD. I might have to pay the extra couple of bucks ordering it through Amazon just to be sure.

Dave:

How can anyone resist a title called "Oversexed Rugsuckers from Mars (1989)"? I may never buy another movie again, as that would complete my collection!!! (and you really should have dug up a picture from that for the top of the post. Cripes, you found a video for "Machine Girl" a few weeks back!)

Sleeping Beauty BD, and, of course, the newest Stooges collection this week for me. Maybe we will have all of the Stooges shorts out on DVD by the end of next year! I might pick up the 2 disc Silence of the Lambs at CC if I can find a copy after today.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-7-2008

Anyone know what Target's charging for HIMYM season 3? I'll be picking up that and Simpsons S11 this week. I absolutely would get 30 Rock S2 but the fact that the cheapest price is $27 for 14 half-hour episodes (good as they are) is absolutely ridiculous.

Thanks for the Roundup!

Just Sleeping Beauty BD for me this week. I'll pick up Ray Harryhausen Collection BD sometime later on.

I agree. This may be my first Blu-Ray purchase even though I don't yet have a player. That's one way to expand the market. Once people have a few of these in their collection, it will be easier to justify buying another video player.

If it's the 3-disc Blu-Ray set, it will include the SD-DVD.

Costco had a Blu-Ray player for $229. I think that's the cheapest I've seen yet.

Definitely "Sleeping Beauty" on Blu-ray-- maybe "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad" or one or two others if I'm not strong, but I'm trying to resist.

Sleeping Beauty BD, and, of course, the newest Stooges collection this week for me. Maybe we will have all of the Stooges shorts out on DVD by the end of next year! I might pick up the 2 disc Silence of the Lambs at CC if I can find a copy after today.

And who is this "Dave" of whom you speak?!?

It is impressive how fast those Stooges Collections are rolling off the assembly line!

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-7-2008

Regarding the BB Sleeping Beauty DVD buy-back program--anyone know if you're supposed to take the DVD to BB, or are you supposed to mail it in to the address listed in the program details? The T&Cs don't exactly make it clear as to which manner the DVD is supposed to be submitted, although given that the terms do mention "...and send in any used Disney DVD" (underline is my doing), I suspect that the DVD is to be mailed in.

Anyways--the lowest sales price I've seen for the BD version of Sleeping Beauty is $22.99 at Fry's--and yes I know not everyone has a Fry's nearby, but for those who do...it's another low-price option. And yes I know that one would come out ahead if one chooses to go for the BB $10 GC offer (even better if you can find a Disney DVD in the bargain bin for real cheap that you can use as your "sacrificial offering", rather than give up one from your personal collection).

I think it's ALL, Mark. Best Buy's site also mentions the third SD disc.

I suspect the same thing. It would be nice if the directions on sending in the used DVD were more specific. Do they also want the case & artwork, etc.?

Damn! I saw a bunch of Disney DVDs at a garage sale this weekend for $3. Should have picked one up just for this reason! Never thought of it!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-7-2008

Hmmm... The BB deal for the Sleeping Beauty BD certainly sounds interesting, especially since the BD itself comes w/ the DVD version included. I hadn't planned on buying the BD, but maybe I'll reconsider now.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-7-2008

Expensive week...

Sleeping Beauty BD is reserved and half paid for at Movie Stop (they had a trade-in-4-DVDs-get-half-off-BD deal). I've been really looking forward to that one. I'll pick up Three Stooges Collection 4 and Simpsons Season 11 this week, also.

I will rent Zohan and Happening.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-7-2008

Just went to BB. Sleeping Beauty Buy-Back is a postage-paid envelope. However, the local BB here didn't have them in public view. I had to ask the checkout person about the buy-back program and they were clueless. They had to have a manager go get an envelope from the back.

Also has anyone here had any trouble buying Simpsons S11 at BB? The local BB is only honoring the $29.99 for the Krusty Head packaging, while the non-Krusty packaging is ringing up $39.99. (Of course, I prefer the non-Krusty packaging for storage reasons.) After talking to the managers, they still won't budge on the $39.99, since the Krusty Head is shown on the flyer and not the non-Krusty Head. They said I should be happy with the Krusty Head since it looks better anyway.

I think Target shows both for $29.99, you could always bring in the ad if you insist on buying it from BB.

Thanks! I'll definitely try that at lunch. I've been spending so much time online ordering recently that I'd forgotten some of the b&m hassles.

Can anyone who has ventured out to Costco today confirm if they have any f the new Hitchcocks or Touch of Evil? I'm trying to decide whether or not to make the trip over there.

Which Costco? They don't all get the same stock.

Does the envelope come with any "more specific" instructions, Jeff? ...about sending the used Disney disc back?

Cool that it's postage-paid.
