Comcast Network Management FAQs

Hi, I recieved an Email from Comcast talking about there new Policys in effect Oct. 1, 2008. Basically they will be limiting the Bandwidth used by each Household to 250GB a Month. I know for Some they will Never reach that limit. But for Some Like myself who Host GameServers this is going to be a Inconvenience. Now they had said for a while they will just be giving Warnings to let their customers now they are using too much Bandwidth. After a time the will either be suspending or Cancelling your Account with Comcast, for Unfair Usage.

I had Called up Comcast too ask about will I use that much Bandwidth Hosting an Americas Army Server for 20 People?? The Guy just paused and said he Didnt know. Well unfortunetely I have Not been able to get a Server running yet

In All Fairness to customers that Dont Hog the Bandwidth this is Mostly targeting he P2P Hogs As Comcast said under 1% fall into this Catagory.
Well I had said the the Rep Why dont they Cancell the 1% instead of Limiting the 99% well he had No Answer.

Well this is just great I hope I am just going on about nothing but If when I Host the Server at Night After 11PM, I will see How much I actually use, I am expecting a call from Comcast.

Where this Post is Going well just to inform the Masses of this new Practice Comcast is subjecting the masses too. They had mentioned that No Body has Complained of the new Management Practise they tested since March Well maybe Nobody complained cause you didnt Tell us till Now..

Here is the FAQ about the new Network Managment in case your interested and a Comcast user:

Comcast Help & Support

FIOS will be a Good thing on many levels

EDIT: Well it also Appears if you repeatedly go Over the alotted Bandwidth they will reccomend you to a Business class service which I think you can use more Bandwidth ?? How Much I am NOT sure. Well just another way to Bleed us dry I guess.

What is going to happen when they have Legal Dls of HD Movies and such?? I believe this 250GB Limit will be exceded by many customers?? What if You have kids that do ALOT of Gaming. Now last time I checked that is Not ilegal??

Re: Comcast Network Management FAQs

well it think that one of the reasons comcast is putting this limit out is to also deter people from legally downloading hd content. comcast wants customers to view and pay for the content that they broadcast.

just another angle to think about.

and really, in one percent of users really hogging that much bandwith. yeah, right....

listen with your own ears...
watch with your own eyes...
make your own decision.
