Boston Acoustics' new Classic series

Nice to see BA again selling some "Regular Joe" speakers with what looks like competent components and nice styling but are still affordable:

Boston Acoustics Classic Series

There's also a floorstander, another bookshelf model, a center channel and a subwoofer. And thank goodness a finish choice that includes more than just black (not that I dislike black but it doesn't work with *every* room.....or S.O.).

Re: Boston Acoustics' new Classic series

The 336 floorstander ($$$) has a rather unusual cabinet design. Looks like a single "foot" at the rear. The 226 tower is more normal looking. But the sub is a bit unusual as well (and again, $$$), but still looks O.K. Of course, how they perform is more important.

Re: Boston Acoustics' new Classic series

^ You must be looking at that new Vision series, whose styling I am not fond of, particularly the subwoofer. But their Horizon series still wins - sorry BA - my personal prize for Ugliest Speakers Of The Last Decade.

Checking out the Classic series I realized the only other bookshelf has only a 3.5" midbass ("woofer") driver. But marketing reality set in quickly: 1) WAF issues and 2) the fact that many people seem to equate "hi-tech" sound systems with tiny speakers. Fortunately the larger bookshelf uses a 6.5" woofer, one of my favorite sizes for a sat + sub system (an 8" woofer is my favorite for larger rooms, or its dual-woofered equivalent).

Ya, those are the one's. The model number was simular to the Classic series. Oop's!

Well, I wouldn't say that. But I'm glad you did! Not for me, either.

Just a heads-up for holiday shoppers: BA has the Classic series on sale on their website.

Has anyone heard the new Classic series? I am hoping these new BA will sound as good as the original CR series.

Edit: I just clicked on the BA link to the Classic series. $200.00/pair for the bookshelf model with 6.5" woofer. I am sooooo tempted.

Edit #2: Crutchfield.com currently has the same price for the CS26 as BA's website. Crutchfield's site also has a lot more photos and closeups.
