The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

"LP" in the RoundUp table means a store’s Sunday flyer says "Low Price". That means I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, as always, Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

Thanks for the Roundup, guys!

Iron Man & Forgetting Sarah Marshall on Blu for me, as well as a double-dip on the sublime "Sports Night" - which is available at Deep Discount for only $40.26 - a significant amount less than everyone else.

Big week for me (so big that I'll probably wait for a sale or a slower week to pick up some of these). I'll be picking up the Blu-rays of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, The Sixth Sense, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Thing. I'm also comtemplating the Sports Night re-release.

Thanks for the prices, guys!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-30-2008

I think I'll also spring for the 2 disc Iron Man with mask case at Target. I'll wait until Nick Fury is cheaper, as in $3.99 or something. I guess BB is trying to cash in on Nick Fury's appearance in Iron Man, but like Troy, I really never expected this to come out on DVD. (Now if someone will put out the Generation X TV movie from '96, all of the bad made for TV Marvel movies will be available.)

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-30-2008

My only immediate purchase this week is Iron Man on blu......problem is which version to buy. Up here, BB has the Exclusive Blu-ray version of the gift set while Futureshop has the steelbook. Both versions are equally nice and somehow a steelbook for this film seems very appropriate. Decisions, decisions...

As for the others......Sixth Sense, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Thing, Daredevil, 40-Year Old Virgin.....I'll get them sometime when I find them cheaper.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-30-2008

Thanks for the RoundUp guys! As I type this, SportsNight is on its way courtesy of a 40% off Borders pre-order coupon. Other than that, it's Iron Man Blu-ray for me this week. I may spring for the Target "head" case, but I have now reached a point where I shy away from this kind of packaging since it is almost always more trouble than it is worth from a "coolness" standpoint. If the bonus footage actually amounts to something, I will go with it. Also, I will probably pick up My Three Sons, but since I have yet to read a review, I am still in a holding pattern on that one...

The Ultimate Unrated Comedy Collection is tempting, especially at the Amazon price. But I prefer the 40-Year Old Virgin's theatrical cut and I already have Knocked Up on HD DVD.

Only 50.43 at DD. I have had two copies of Knocked Up on HD-DVD have problems, so I'm happy to replace them.

On Sunday at Costco, they had the 3-D Hannah Montana Concert and Camp Rock on Blu for $14 and change apiece ($10 off regular price). I have no idea if that ended yesterday or if it's still going on, but if you're looking for those and happen to be near Costco, it's worth a look.

Like John I got the Iron Man BD set at Target with the collectible case. My local Target had quite a few in stock, so I probably didn't have to arrive at open, but wanted to ensure I got one.

That said, I think the case is lovely. Well-constructed and the discs are securely fastened. Plus the plastic sheath it comes encased in makes it easy to display. An excellent product that is worth the trip to your local Target.

Justin, can you please confirm that there really is no Target exclusive "additional footage" as I read elsewhere? I don't understand why Target puts this in their ad when they are selling the same version as every other retailer except for the case. It seems a bit misleading to me. I was going to buy the Target version if it had some worthwhile additional bonus footage, but that does not appear to be the case.

Gary,

I can't confirm or deny any extra, exclusive footage. Nothing is listed on the case giving any indication either way. There was no bonus disc labeled Target. The first disc is Blue, the second disc is Grey.

That is just like the set I bought at Best Buy. I think that sometimes when Target throws in this "additional footage" claim, it is in comparison to the single disc version. Like I say, IMO it's a bit misleading...

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-30-2008

Ended up picking up the Iron Man BD Steelbook edition at Futureshop......they had lots of copies of the DVD Steelbooks but I managed to get the 2nd last Blu-ray Steelbook in the store - had to go to 2 different stores just to find it. Those ones seem to be disappearing fast.

As for the Target exclusive......over in Canada, HMV carries it - but only for the DVD version it seems. It even costs more than the Steelbook I purchased ( $32.99 CDN for a DVD set vs the $29.99 I paid for the BD.). Crazy.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-30-2008

Did a little shopping tonight.

FYE stores in the US have a steelbook of Iron Man. i only saw them (in my local store) for the SD version. All their BDs were in the regular blue platic case.

I got my IM BD at Best Buy. I went to the register with my BD, my RZ card and the two coupons from their September DVD catalog they offer in-store (I don't know if they'll have one for October). The BD rang up $25.99 (the advertised price) and the clerk used both coupons...which took a 20% discount off the BD price and dropped it to $20.79! The other coupons gave me double RZ points for the purchase! Score!

FWIW, I also have heard--twice this week--a radio commercial on my local ESPN affiliate from Wal-Mart(!) advertising this week's release of Iron Man on DVD & Blu-ray. They go to great lengths to play up their price matching policy. "Bring in any local competitors print ad and we'll match their price..."

And...just checked in on the My Three Sons thread over in the TV Software Forum and somebody took the plunge and purchased the My Three Sons release today and has confirmed that there is replacement music on at least two of the episodes sampled.

Most people will want to stay away from this release.

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!
