Re: HTF Blu-Ray Review: Iron Man Ultimate Two-Disc Edition (RECOMMENDED!)
Just finished watching this film for the very first time on BD.
A few thoughts....
One of the best comic book movies I have ever seen. I have read
people who claimed they felt this film was better than The Dark
Knight. Add me to the list of people that feel the same way.
As much as Heath Ledger made TDK, Robert Downey made
Iron Man. I could not imagine any other actor filling the Iron
Man shoes and making it work so well.
The Blu-ray disc looks wonderful, and more importantly, sounds
unbelievable. The bass response alone off this disc was incredible.
Totally amazed by this film! You will be too!

I loved this film in the theater, but loved it even more at home. Everything was absolutely great. My only issue, and it is probably something in my setup, was that the overall volume of the disc seemed low to me. I have a 3808ci amp and I had to crank it close to -10dB just to get a good sound out of it. Typically I run around -18 to -20.
I might need to ask a bit on the hardware boards to see if I have a setting wrong.

The following applies to My TX-SR606 - which might apply to other Onkyo's AVRs.
When I 1st got my TX-SR606, I discovered that my HD DVD & Blu-ray TrueHD discs LFE bass were weak. I checked all the "Audio" settings, ... and found that the default for the following Audio option was ...
1) Late Night = AUTO (Onkyo's default for TrueHD - Manual pg. 69)
... Once I discovered that, I changed ...
1) Late Night = OFF (no more enemic LFE!!!

)
Knowing the above, "Iron Man" TrueHD changed Late Night = AUTO, ... so I changed it back = OFF during the Paramount Logo screen.

On top of this being the best comic book movie to date the TrueHD track has got to be one of the best as well. The detail in all channels, the bass and the overall envelopment of the track is beyond impressive. This has got to rank as one of the best Blu-ray discs available right now.

I have a Sony BD 301 which is a 1.0 profile. Should I worry about the load times or DRM? I dont have my copy yet

Iron Man BD
[Got it. Was going dancing in The City tonight, however have an interview tomorrow, so its movie night instead]
Looks better than I remember seeing it in a DLP theater (lamp? focus? screen?).
Sounds OK compared to the theater system (not too boomy).
Played flawlessly on my old BH200 (disc one).
Like the cover better than the slip. Although, cover could have used more color ("Blu"; ha ha!) & a holographic arc reactor.
SD DVD's slip is better.
This is NOT the "ultimate" IM, doesn't even have a commentary track (more too come!).
Enjoyed the movie at home as well as the second theater experience.

Amen. This film balanced all of its elements beautifully. It was neither too light, nor too dark, not too character-driven nor too action-driven. I'd go so far as to say it may be the best superhero-themed film I've seen. Donner's original Supes is great and iconic, but cheesy in spots and I still don't like the ending. I liked TDK a lot, but I'm not as rabid a fan of Nolan's vision as some. I don't mind my comic book films being a bit more, well, comic-bookish, but without degenerating into camp.
Iron Man hit the sweet spot for me, and I hope the sequels don't disappoint.
I just watched the blu-ray and was very satisfied with it. I have yet to delve into the Disc 2 supplements. I don't have lossless audio capability yet, but what I heard sounded good relative to other discs. This is definitely one of my favorite BDs.

Re: HTF Blu-Ray Review: Iron Man Ultimate Two-Disc Edition (RECOMMENDED!)
I have bought this disc the day it hit shelves and have only sampled it while waiting on life to settle down so I can watch it. I didn't see a basic 5.1 track. Did I just miss it or is there just a True5.1? I won't be upgrading my sound for at least a year so I'm stuck with 5.1 for now.
