Onkyo TX-SR705 (great price) or TX-SR606

I was emailed this great deal for a TX-SR705:

Well it would not let me post the link but Amazon has it for $399.

I was planning on going with the TX-SR606 though. Is it worth buying last year model of the 700 series over this years model of of the 600 series. I still think I am leaning toward this years model.

TX-SR606: has the fix to any possible lip sync issue.

TX-SR705: does this have better music sound. The only complaint I read about the 606 is that it does not play music so great.

Any info would be great thanks!

The 705 will sound better and have more power. Do you need the "latest and greatest" features?

FWIW I'm running a circa 2000 Integra DTR-7 and loving it.

The 705 has a better version of Audyssey. For that reason alone, I would choose the 705.

Re: Onkyo TX-SR705 (great price) or TX-SR606

Here are the features I think I need.

I want to run:
Verizon Fios HDMI (don't care about up converting, wont the right decoders)
PS3 (I want to decode it at the best possible quality at the 5.1, I want to watch blueray and play all my video games, and all through one hdmi, up converting not necessary)
WII through analog
XBOX360 through HDMI

On the up converting I really do not care about it, but it has to pass the signal with no degradation.

I want to have one cable from each of my components to the receiver and one cable from my receiver to tv.

I want as good a sound as I can get for the dollar.

I will have $1500 to $2000 left for the speakers.

Still of the opinion to go with the 705?

the 705 also has preouts-- good for upgradability.

Select the 705 and 606 and hit "Compare"

Re: Onkyo TX-SR705 (great price) or TX-SR606

I have owned a 705 since May. I have encountered no problems with the receiver. I am using it as a Pre/Pro, and it is amplified by a ROTEL amplifier. I think it is a great unit. A lot of bang for the dollar.

I did consider the 805, but I figured the 705 was a better value for me.
