Sleeping Beauty BD comes with a DVD version too!

Maybe I missed this earlier, but I just took a look at the press release that came with a review copy of Sleeping Beauty on DVD and it said that the BD version will come with a copy of the movie on DVD too! It looks like Disney is hoping DVD owners may "future proof" their copy by springing for the BD version. For someone like me with kids it's great news. I can have the BD for viewing in the theater, and still have a copy that plays in the kitchen and the car!

Way to go Disney! Hopefully this will continue on future titles.

The people who despised the combi-HD (because it "gave them something they didn't need") this must be even more horrible.

But I think it's a great solution.

Re: Sleeping Beauty BD comes with a DVD version too!

I hated HD DVD combos with a passion but I really like this idea! I don't know why... even though I already have the Sleeping Beaty DVD from ears ago I love the concept. If done like this I can't wait for the BD all of disney movies.

As long as the price is the same as their regular BD releases this is great. If they are charging a premium then it is dissapointing. If that is the case they should offer the choice of BD with or without. But I am hopeful it will retail same as say... Cars or any other Disney BD. Or else it's not a bonus disc. you are paying for it. If I wanted to pay more to have both well then I've always had that option.

Including the DVD is much more of a value add than the digital download.

Re: Sleeping Beauty BD comes with a DVD version too!

Has anyone confirmed that the included SD-DVD is of the newly restored version or is it the special edition from a year ago?

Wow! I am finally leaping into the BD world, and here I thought Blade Runner would be my first BD purchase.

A year ago? What kind of a time-warp are you living in? The special edition was released 5 years ago. I can't imagine they would be sticking the old DVD with the Blu-ray. But I'll find out tomorrow. I intend to use the Best Buy offer where they give you a special mailer with your Sleeping Beauty BD to mail them any of your old Disney DVDs and they'll send you a $10 gift card. I've got several Old Disney DVDs left over from double-dips that I can pick one to send in. That will effectively reduce the Best Buy price to $16.99!

The included SD dvd says 50th Anniversary on the sleeve - and the back side does confirm: " All new digital restoration with enhanced picture and sound " and a few extras ( not listed ). Hope that helps!

Cool, I can always give the SD version to my Granddaughter.

Re: Sleeping Beauty BD comes with a DVD version too!

I was thinking of getting a 3-disc slim case and putting the DVD in with my old collectors' edition for the kids to watch. There are some features I intend on retaining from the original release.

The disc included with the Blu is disc one from the DVD set. Includes the commentary, horrible Disney Channel star music video, and everything found on that disc from the DVD set.

Anyone else having trouble accessing the 'princess stuff'?
Went to this special feature after watching the movie w/my 3 yr old niece (she "luv'd the BB clock; thanks workers of China) & it repeatedly took us back too the main feature.

Re: Sleeping Beauty BD comes with a DVD version too!

I think those who disliked HD DVD combos were because they were losing disc art work, it was very hard to read the tiny print around the hub, and the fact too many combos had technical problems. Including a seperate disc of the SD DVD is a much better idea.

I think in the future we'll see releases like this as the only option to get the SD movie in order to help encourage BD adoption.

Re: Sleeping Beauty BD comes with a DVD version too!

This was a good idea - I don't have a blue-ray player yet - but the price difference between the regular release ($15.00) and the blue-ray ($25.00) is only 10 bucks - that fits into the budget, I can watch the new release now on my DVD player, and will have the BR disk when I eventually upgrade....

I think you are the target customer. It's not about giving customers who already have BD the DVD, but about getting DVD customers to pay a bit more and start thinking about getting a BD player.

I know I am the target customer. Hoping to get a new receiver and BD player with next year's tax return.

Re: Sleeping Beauty BD comes with a DVD version too!

I think I am also the target customer, since I have small kids who like to watch the newest Disney movies on Blu-ray AND standard def in other rooms and the car where I DON"T have Blu-ray.

I hope they do this on future Disney new releases.

Well, it FELT like a year ago to me.

I also picked up the Blu-Ray version. I will be buying a Pany BD-50 next July and will now start buying films on Blu-Ray instead of SD-DVD whenever the option is available. (Some films I love aren't even on SD-DVD yet!). That way I will have something "blu" to play when I get it.

Same here. I was actually gonna just pass on this since I own the previous SE DVD already -- and this is not exactly the "must have" classic that many others are. But this combo approach (plus the Best Buy $10 back offer) is really tempting me.

I would add though that even digital copies (for this type of movie) will probably also become a useful bonus for us now that my daugther has an iPod Nano and my son a PSP -- and we don't always have to lug a laptop or similar for movies-on-the-go for them.

BTW, did anyone else also notice that Wall-E comes in 2 flavors, one w/ and one w/out the digital copy, and the price diff is only like ~$1 MSRP -- and Amazon actually charges same price for both.

I think Disney really deserves some kudos for trying all sorts of offers to help grow the BD market -- and serve their potential customers...
