No one who knows what they are takes them seriously (made up of foreign journalists, for papers like the Romanian Daily Shopper, that people in their own country have never heard of). In the 80's, the awards shows aired in syndication. In the 90's they aired on TBS. Only when Dick Clark took over, and a network began airing them did people start to pay attention.

Ditto. I think most people realize the GG's are a joke. It's just an excuse to have a celebrity drinking party.

I remember Steve Allen hosting the "Night of 1,000 Stars" in New York one year. His opening comment? "If a meteor were to hit this building tonight...
then Pia Zadora would be a star."

This is a great show. Probably the best sitcom on TV today. I'd even go as far as saying the best sitcom since Arrested Development.

"Penny that is strike three".

vewwwwy quiet. I'm hunting that wascawy wobot!"

I hope the producers are smart enough to realize that we must never, ever,
ever see Howard's mother. She is one of those characters, like Carlton the doorman, who is so perfectly embodied by a voice that it would be madness to add a face.

I completely agree with that. Howards mothers voice cracks me up, I really don't ever want to see her. It's much funnier that way.
As for the episode, it was okay. I laughed at certain parts, but I didn't think it was as funny as it could have been. Sheldon getting upset when Penny said " it's just s robot" was hysterical.

Yep, despite the (spoilers) tag at the top of the card, that was messed up. I'm not sure what they were thinking. Big thumbs down for the Vanity card for last night's episode.

I can't imagine many people were happy about that.

Definitely not. Estelle Harris's voice was more high-pitched and whiney. Howard's mother is more of a gutteral, five-pack-a-day smoker voice. A quick check of the IMDB reveals that Carol Ann Susi provides the voice of Mrs. Wolowitz. She's done a ton of episodic TV and movies, but mostly in stuff I haven't seen or in episodes I don't remember. The only role of hers that really made an impression on me was from an 80s comedy (and for years I've assumed it was another actress.) I did recall her from one 80s comedy, and even allowing for the 20 years difference she was nothing like my idea of Howard's mother, so I'm kinda sorry I looked her up.

(I'm not saying she looked
better than my idea of Mrs. W., just different.

Re: Big Bang Theory - season 2
I have a question.
My local CBS station ran some extra comercials during one of the breaks. They came back from the break and Penny was sitting on Howard's bed talking to him. They cut out the beggining of that scene when she shows up at his house. Did I miss anything funny with the mom? How much did I miss?

Jon, directly underneath the title card was the phrase (spoiler alert). Despite that it is almost impossible to avoid reading part of the card since the text all flashes up on the screen simultaneously.

I'm funny with the vanity cards, sometimes I read them and sometimes I don't, glad this was one of the weeks that I didn't.

Thanks Anthony. I figured there must have been something else there. As I was reading your reply, I heard Howard's mother's voice. LOL

When Penny says " It's just a toy robot" I can't help but pause on Sheldons face. His facial expressions are some of the best. Raj had some great lines in this episode.
* Man, call spoiler alert before you say things like that.
* what part of america is that accent from?
* Maybe we should enter you in the killer robot competition (said through Leonard)
* Did you know he writese poetry? Mostly about men from nantucket and hermits named dave, but he does it with real sensativity.

Re: Big Bang Theory - season 2
Two thoughts:
I too thought Howard's mom was Estelle, but no its Carol Ann Susi.
I thought the V.C. was good, but only because I really have no interest in any of those movies anyway. The simple boring descriptions were pretty funny to me.

Another spectacular performance by Parsons. I'm hoping that this Barry crypky (sp?) will be in more episodes as well. Those two are funny together.
Howard had some funny moments in last night ep. I thought it was great how he wanted out of his friendship with Sheldon. Also, his line to Penny about how he must be looking pretty good about now was great.
Another great episode!
