Onkyo TX-SR806 Volume Control

Hi All:

I just setup my brand new receiver along with Belkin PureAV protector and Philips DVP5992 DVD player. All connections are analog and I have a projector instead of a TV. I have a 5.1 setup with old Aiwa speakers (200W front and 65W the rest). The Audyssey setup went fine and the receiver worked fine for about 30 minutes. Now when I play a DVD, the sound starts off full blast and the receiver master audio control or the remote have no effect. The receiver displays volume as 0 (I have it set to display absolute) and this has almost ruined the speakers. I have gone through all of the audio menu and set it to start off at minimum volume and have even reset the receiver. Has any of you experienced anything similar to this? I might send it back to Vann's for an exchange.

Thanks

Re: Onkyo TX-SR806 Volume Control

Why are you using analog connections? Use digital instead. For one, it should solve the problem and for another, it's a much better way to go.

FYI, there is a configuration somewhere on the Onkyo that lets you set a default volume. It may have been set to max, or it may be another configuration error from using analog inputs.

Re: Onkyo TX-SR806 Volume Control

I am wondering that since you set it up with analog connections it isn't going into a pure bypass mode. Where you are just using the receivers internal amps and it is expecting the volume to be controlled by your source?
