He could write some fun songs. "The Beat goes On" is on his tombstone.

I used Calling Occupants (Carpenters version) in a short film I made from my old home music footage. Strange song. I think it's on my i-pod right now.

Radioman,

I didn't know that about his tombstone.

Yeah, I was very much into Klaatu shortly after High School (and later). I think Sub-Rosa Subway is also one of my favs. from that time.

John,

I haven't yet. I don't usually tire of music that means quite a lot to me. I usually listen to a band's work in bunches like this, especially when I've just acquired a vast amount recorded by an artist or group. Besides, repeated, intense listening to various genres is what helps me to analyze, learn, and write about what is occuring in the music.

I used to listen to the Beatles for about six hours a day five days a week, and this went on for approximately three years. I wanted to write my dissertation on them at one time, but found it had already been done in the areas in which I would have chosen to write.

Hoedown, from Trilogy (ELP).

Very true. Great album. Another one that really needs hi-res.

Speaking of which, I do some employee support work (nothing technical, I assure you) at a hush-hush Sony office building off the beaten path in S.J (lots of people scurrying about, acting nervously, whispering in a language other than English) a couple of times a week. Not sure what they do there, and I'm afraid to ask, but there's allot of flat panels, a few receivers and a bunch of dvd players and parts laying around. The next time I'm in there I'm going I'm going to leave some subtle hints that Sony needs to kick-start SACD.

Anyway, now I'm watching/listening to ELO's Zoom concert dvd. No matter what you think of Jeff Lynn, this is an excellent disc. Highly recommended. But you need a pretty good dvd player to get rid of the graininess in the picture.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Currently running my ipod on shuffle mode and connected to the boombox....have listened to an interesting mix of classic rock, alternative and jazz over the past couple of hours:

Synchronicity I - The Police
Ireland - Tori Amos
Cannonball- Supertramp
Easter Parade - Chris Botti
Limp - Fiona Apple
Real Men - Tori Amos
The First Time - U2
Pretty Good Year - Tori Amos
Arnold Layne - Pink Floyd
Red Light - U2
Spirits In The Material World - The Police
Hello and Welcome - Enigma
I've Seen All Good People - Yes
King Of The World - Steely Dan
Channel Z - The B-52's
So In Love - OMD

Gotta love the shuffle function......you never know what direction the music will take you next.

Agreed. I use the random function on my 1960s collection frequently. I have seventy-three songs on one MP3 disc, and love not knowing what is coming next.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

"Rock and roll hootchie koo" Rick Derringer
"Rise" Herb Alpert.
"Right Time of the Night" Jennifer Warnes
"Reunited" Peaches & Herb
"Reminiscing" Little River Band
"Relax" Frankie Goes to Hollywood (used in one of my fav horror movies "Body Double")

Reverse alphabetical order on my ipod . Random setting was playing too many of the same ones over and over...grrr.

For some reason I can only fit 125 songs in its 2gigs of space. I thought it would be more like 500. I actually have the INVION 2gig player buy.com was selling for $18. Nice little gadget!

Re: What are you listening to right now?

I figured out why 125 songs only. They are 192K instead of 128k. That sure makes a lot of difference.

Anyway, "Lady Blue" Leon Russell

I love that work. It has one of the most extraordinary examples of magadizing (it occurs on the entire text) I've ever encountered.

At the moment, Jeff Beck - "Wired". Next up, Jerry Lee Lewis "Live at The Star Club in Hamburg".

If you don't have the one from The Killer, it is essential. It is often characterized as the best live album ever made.
