Hand In My Pocket (A. Morissette).
Easily one of my favorite tunes of hers (G major), although I have several. The harmonica part in the middle is far too short, although it works out well as far as the formal proportion of the track is concerned. I just wish she had doubled that section because I really like it so much.
The primary triad is lacking a third (B-natural) several times in the guitar part, which is a wonderful effect. If the tune had begun with a full G triad, I would probably not have given it as serious a listen as I eventually did roughly fifteen years ago. The hollowness of the perfect fifth (twelfth) is IMO very musical, and caught my ear instantly upon first hearing the track. You can hear a similar effect on
Tell Me What You See (on
Help!, British album, and on
Beatles VI, American album). Both tunes are in the same key. {Incidentally,
Tell Me What You See is in my estimation a very underrated tune of the Fabs.}
