I bought the PAL box set from amazon UK (the British pound ain't worth what it was). I have a region free player that outputs PAL and NTSC (either converted or native) and my projector and small HD monitor accept PAL natively.

By the way, how do they sound?

They are not as "sonically grand" as some of my SACDs (there exist numerous threads on the web that decry their quality--some far too excessively, IMO--but I can live with them just fine). However, while I've not made my way through the first two (chronologically) boxes in their entirety, I've yet to find a MCH mix I do not like. I have found something that bothers me in the 2 CH re-mix of Misunderstanding--it appears that a guitar part is missing (very short section, but it was in the original). I have not noticed its absence in the MCH mix but that could be because I'm "distracted" by the rest of the MCH re-mix.
The short story is that when I'm listening in the "main system", I always choose the MCH mix. I'm a big enough fan that I don't limit my listening to the "man-cave" (as my wife has dubbed the HT room) so I listen in 2 CH in the living room or in the car. But I'm not about to give up on the MCH mixes anytime soon (lack of sonic "perfection" notwithstanding). I have no regrets about buying the sets and will get the others (the 83-98 set and the announced, yet currently unreleased, "Live" set). I don't think there will be a release that does not include the DVDs, though (at least not for a very long time). And there are enough things are the DVDs to make them worth getting anyway. If you insist on NTSC, I suggest going via the official Genesis website (I believe you can order them there and specify NTSC) or via a Japanese seller. But if your equipment does PAL at all, save some money and get the PAL version.

Oh, on topic--Copland Billy the Kid suite on Naxos (I'm evaluating a Naxos release that has his four part Rodeo composition as well to see if it is worth suggesting as a supplement to my students in my class on the history of the "Wild West").

Michael Giacchino's soundtrack to the new Star Trek movie. Absolutely glorious fanfare. The fact that the movie itself is absolutely fantastic just makes the music all the more exquisite.
