Yes, that relationship still makes vampires parasitic in nature.

Re: HBO's True Blood

would vampires die if they don't feed on human blood?

are there vampire mythologies where vampires don't require human blood to live?

Re: HBO's True Blood

Traditionally, I believe vampires can live on warm-blooded animal blood in the same way humans can live on dog food. Most would prefer to eat something else. The other questions is can they live without eating at all? I've seen evidence of a hunger, which would seem to indicate that at some point, the urge to feed is so strong, it can no longer be denied. Consider what happens if you try not to blink. The longer it goes, the harder it is for you not to do it. On the other hand, I've also seen vampire lore say the longer they don't feed, the weaker they get -- that the blood itself is life sustaining and energizing.

This show clearly subscribes to that theory. When Bill was told of his potential punishments, one was that he would be locked in a coffin for years without feeding on a human, and told his bones would be like kindling and his skin would wear out like leather.

So, the longer they go, the more sick they get. Can they feed on animals? That hasn't been explored here yet. I would assume probably yes. I keep picturing Angel asking for a glass of pig's blood now.

In the books, they can feed on animals. My general feeling is that the books gave a more sympathetic view of the vampires than the series does.

Re: HBO's True Blood

Surprised that Sam didn't go all animal on Bill.

Bill is the worse maker...ever.

I'll miss Amy.

The phone conversation just sounded weird (in how the police receptionist said she was glad she didn't have to be killed by the person on the other end of the call). Was Drew's photo/file a bit of misdirection?

What has Tara gotten herself into?

I dunno. Makes most sense if he's the perp. Still, if I were to choose anyone else, it would be one of Jason's work-buddies, whom he told about the V.

I'm guessing Ensign Ro is one of the more-important vampires, the "She" mentioned early on in the season.

Just a guess but I think the Cajun is the killer.

Rene ("Drew Marshall") is one of the work buddies Jason confided in along with momma's boy, Hoyt. I think it would be too easy for it to be Rene considering all of the evidence that suggests it him - we're almost certainly headed for a swerve. I'm going with Hoyt as the killer.

Hoyt might make sense with his mama issues.

Re: HBO's True Blood

It seems like whoiever it is, they have a serious bent on framing Jason for each women he does the bumping uglies 2-step. Jason must have done their sister wrong or something in the past.

Re: HBO's True Blood

I think the killer is Detective Belfleur (spelling?). I've only seen each episode once so maybe something in a previous episode completely contradicts that. He seems sinister enough to be the bad guy but not sinister enough to have an arrow pointing at him. He also seems hellbent on pinning the murders on Jason. Although that could easily be explained as him legitimately believing that Jason is the killer.

My next guess would be Rene.

I believe in the previews they did show her sitting in the sunlight. Maybe True Blood is going with the lore that if old and powerful enough a Vampire can be exposed to sunlight?

Could she be a Werewolf?

I took it to mean she was calling one of her friends, both of whom have slept with Jason. I think she said "I'm glad he didn't kill us".
Yeah, I think Drew's photo is a bit of mis-direction and this is purely speculation on my part but

Warning Spoiler! Click to show

I think Drew/Rene changed his name and moved in order to track someone he suspects is the real killer.

Hmm, the werewolf idea is plausible (was it her that was naked in the road that Tara almost hit?). The vampire in sunlight thing was explained by Bill saying that Vamps can be inthe sunlight but if they stay in then it starts to get stinky...and eventually flamey. So maybe if she'sa very old vamp then she can stay in sunlight even longer before stuff starts to affect her?

Hmm, maybe Rene is watching Hoyt?

Doesn't sunscreen also work on vamps in broad daylight (I'm remembering from Blade).

It seemed more like a regular episode than a season finale.

I thought Bill wouldnt survive the season and was kind of suprised he did.

And lots of loose threads for season 2

Re: HBO's True Blood

Looking back at the end of the previous episode, the faxed photo was definitely Rene, minus facial hair (so much for the flashback in this ep). The editing was just too damned quick for me to notice.

Yeah, well they dealt with the killer in the first half, it seemed, then spent ages setting up new material for next season!

Re: HBO's True Blood

Had to laugh at Bill getting saddled with the redhead in the end. Talk about complications for the guy.

Is Sam on the run now that Mary-Anne has found him?

What did happen to Lafayette?

Jason finds religion.

Why are more females ending up dead in the back of Andy's car?

This show is a hoot.

I completely agree with this and besides the killer aspect not a whole lot going on. I really enjoy this show but I was hoping for a little more drama from season finale.

Since there are 8 books, Id like to see less padding and a bit tighter storytelling.

Maybe focusing on 2 or 3 books per season instead of 1.

Re: HBO's True Blood

I wished there was less setup for the next season but I liked the resolution of the killer storyline. I haven't liked a new show on HBO this much since Deadwood began.

And to correct my previous post in the thread, they said during the credits that S2 would start running in the summer.

I think that Lafayette is in back of Andy's car. I'm only going off of that it's a black person's foot and you've seen him painting his toe nails a couple of times though.

I think Sam's cash gathering was to pay off MaryAnne for some reason & what's up with her vibrating in the chair? Is she some kind of strange new creature we've yet to see?

That's gotta be Lafayette dead in the car. Tall male legs and painted toenails.

Agree, this is one unique Creature Feature.

Yeah, she referred to him as though he was her pet, and he had just run away. Interesting where that goes.

But the episode as a whole was kind of a jumbled mess.
