Re: General Stargate questions

The first two epsiodes of Atlantis S4 have been crackin'! I'm having to pace myself so I don't start watching a disc at a time. I hope Bill Lee sticks around. Love that guy.

Gotta agree there. Season 4 wasn't my favorite overall, but there was some really good stuff in it, including the opening two-parter which was awesome.

I followed the Arild Method and watched Atlantis S5 E1 followed by Continuum.  That was cool, because Sam's dialog and the ending set up the movie perfectly.  And, the movie was really good.  Ark of Truth sort of had to be done to wrap things up, but this was just a good adventure yarn that didn't *have* to be told (even though it wrapped up a loose thread, too).  Nothing we haven't seen before, but it was very entertaining.

I finished up S5, and thus have ended my long journey.  The finale was great.  There are some big questions left, so I'm glad to read that a movie is in the works.

Warning Spoiler! Click to show
I can't see Earth giving up Atlantis to the Pegasus Galaxy since it's a pretty amazing defensive/offensive platform. The Milky Way doesn't have any known major threats at the moment, however.  With the Worm Hole Drive, the city will probably be sent back to Pegasus to take care of the Wraith for good.  That's a pretty big risk, though.  Looks like we're a long way off from answers, since I just read that this movie hasn't even started filming yet.  Maybe something will be said in SGU.

They sure are taking their sweet time with that movie, though... AFAIK, the script has been written but that is the only work that's been done on it.

I stuck with this show thru the bitter end - very fun show. Only a couple of issues with it:
The Daniel Jackson character started out as a clumsy science nerd (at least that's how he was depicted in the 1994 film). Towards the middle seasons of the show he was a Rambo-esque, ass-kicking, grizzled combat veteran and an expert marksman. He was a scientist, not a soldier. I always had a problem with that. Also, Richard Dean Anderson just looked so bored  his character started to turn me off. You are exploring alien planets-shouldn't you be excited?

I liked the transformation of Daniel.  You can't do what SG-1 did ever day without becoming battle-hardened.  Plus, he lost a lot to the Goa'uld and became more determined to see them destroyed.  And, Shanks got into working out and he just didn't look like a nerd any more.

I hope the movie moves beyond the script stage.  I'm actually more interested to see how the Atlantis crew winds up than I was SG-1 at the end of their series.  BTW, I think Woolsey worked out a lot better than I thought he would.  He had the potential to be the best expedition leaders of the series.  I don't think Sam worked out all that well.  Picardo is an enjoyable actor in just about everything he does.

I like how Daniel picked up some of Jack's mannerisms and inflections.  The episode where they gate into a museum and they have the people "hostage", one of them says something and Daniel retorts, "I don't care!", I swear it could be Jack talking.
