Somewhere after Season 1, the entire premise became just terrible. Misfits of Science bad. The only thing I could think of when I watched the finale was the bouncing Turkey from Bones a few weeks ago.

I love the comment in Pixar's Incredibles about monologuing. Heroes takes it to a whole new level. Not only do the monologue about NOTHING, but then when it's obvious they've won, they snatch defeat from the jaws of Victory.

All Heroes needs is the introduction of Thunder Monkey. (Don't make me bring the Monkey Thunder)

Agreed.

They have no clue or direction at all. Your going "Cop Rock" is funny, but all too true indeed. This is actually one show I haven't cared about since season 1 and yet Chuck seems to be in worse danger at this time which is actually unique and better. But I have always been in the minority for quality shows vs what is actually watched.

Re: Heroes - Season Three

We finally watched the season finale last night and I did not like the Sylar/Nathan solution. It just didn't work for me much for the reasons that people have already stated.

The whole Peter/Nathan/Sylar confrontation appeared to be poorly planned. Nathan really had no business going up against Sylar. Peter should have gone in with Claire with both of them having her power. Then he could managed to touch him without risking too much. On the other hand, I was surprised when it turned out to be Peter in the President's car. That was nicely done.

I still don't know why they completely forgot about Ando's boost power.

I hope they have a better plan for the next season.

Re: Heroes - Season Three

I've watched Heroes from the start and have enjoyed it through its ups and downs. I've embraced the crazy antics that have put many others off.

But this season's finale was just stupid. I was stunned at how bad the conclusion was. I think it shows a lack of trust by the writers in their characters and own skills: they are so fearful that the show must have Sylar to survive that they'll go through any contortion to keep him around. He was such a wonderfully scary villain in season 1, I wish he'd truly have died for a satisfying conclusion. But now, after three seasons, he needs to be let go and bring a new big bad.

What a letdown that was.

Re: Heroes - Season Three

Well, Dave, the finale was written by Heroes "creator" himself, Tim Kring. So, there you go...

IMO, this show has completely lost its way.

Re: Heroes - Season Three

This isn't meant as a knock against anyone but I think some people are really 'romanticizing' the first season. It's easily the best season of the show but I don't think it was that good of a show back then. In my opinion, it's gone from pretty good in the first season to OK in the second and third years.

I strongly agree with you, Travis. People are treating the first season like it was one of the best seasons of television, ever. While I was certainly a fan (and still am), I personally think the first season was just as muddled in boring characters (I'm looking at you, Micah, DL, and Niki/Jessica) and obvious misdirection (Noah) as the rest of the volumes.

I've always said that. It was actually bordering on bad before the Company Men episode. And Niki always brought it down.

To me, the first season was that good. It was surprisingly fresh, captivating and exciting. Not the best show ever, but one of those great single-season stories. It was like watching Alias or 24 the first season: just thrilling.

I feel much the same way about season 1 and have been VERY disappointed with the junk they have come up with ever since. It would have helped to have some sort of direction or plan on where they were going, like Lost has done so well, yet it just keeps going all over the map.

Re: Heroes - Season Three

There are a variety of press releases and article about NBC's new schedule with Heroes on the definite renewals. Some other shows are still undecided.
One example: NBC unveils new programs for fall | Show Tracker | Los Angeles Times

I wrote to one of the show writers and he said that Claire's blood was brought up in the writers' room meetings. He didn't say why it was rejected (at least for the moment).

Disappointing finale, which indicated the direction the series would take. Good enough setup with lots of interesting characters, and then they blew it; then compounded the problem trying to "save" the show.

Re: Heroes - Season Three

According to NBC cuts fall season in two - Variety.com the shortened season is indeed the case. We'll just get Heroes in the fall at 8 PM. Chuck will replace it at mid-season.

Re: Heroes - Season Three

after how terminator season 1 was done, and dollhouse this year, and just watching 4400 on dvd, i actually enjoy half 11-13 seasons more than i do full 22 seasons. seems like stuff is tighter and just flows better. for serial 1 hour shows i'd rather see this be the norm.

Yes, if the entire Villains chapter had been dropped from last season, I doubt you'd have heard many complaints.

For what it's worth, I (mostly) enjoyed Villains way more than Fugitives. Villains started out great, and I only started having problems with it when they got to their eclipse episode. (The episode actually called "Villains" was their best episode of the season--from either volume--in my opinion.) Whereas the beginning of Fugitives felt too much like an X-Men retread to me, but got interesting again in the last few episodes. If I had to ditch one of those volumes, I'm keeping Villains. But that's just me. Overall I still enjoyed both, I don't regret watching them.
