It looks like the best movie out of Ron Howard since A Beautiful Mind. He's arguably most comfortable directing historical biopics, and this story doesn't lend itself to the sugary warmth of a Cinderella Man. If nothing else, Michael Sheen and Frank Langella bring their award-winning performances intact from the West End stage play. Howard's main role seems to be selling the behind-the-scenes world of 1977 television. For obvious reasons, he's uniquely qualified to do that.
I loved The Queen (and eagerly await the final chapter of Peter Morgan's Tony Blair trilogy starring Sheen, on his relationship with the American presidents) so this should be a bright spot on a pretty dreary looking fall for movies.

Looks interesting. And you're right about Ron Howard.. his best films have been the historical ones; Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind and Cinderella Man.
