The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

"LP" in the RoundUp table means a store’s Sunday flyer says "Low Price". That means I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, as always, Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

Mike & Patrick, thanks as always for the Round-Up. Nixon & Sarah Connor Chronicles BDs for me this week.

Nit-pick department: That's not Lena Headey in the SCC graphic, it's hot robot Summer Glau.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-19-2008

Actually Mike, that's Summer Glau in the Terminator photo.......looks like Craig beat me to it.

Anyway, looks like I'll be getting Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Street Kings on Blu-ray this week...Oh yeah, Nixon too. Justice League: Season 1 I'll probably get sometime - not an immediate purchase for me.
Recently watched- The Mummy(1999)[BD], The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe[BD], You Don't Mess With The Zohan[BD], Patriot Games, Groundhog Day[BD]

Currently watching- Heroes: Season 1[BD], SNL 1976-1977: Season 2, Rome: The Complete Series[BD]

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-19-2008

Thanks as always Mike & Patrick.

With three teen girls in the house (who are totally in love with the Jonas Brothers) there are 2 MUST BUYS this week:
  • Camp Rock
  • Hannah Montana: Best of Both Worlds Tour
Decisions, decisions, decisions with all of the combo offers. I like the instant $10 off at BB and CC, but I might be forced to go to Target and end up with the $10 GC because of the exclusive Bonus Disc. I'm curious to find out what Target's price will be on HM: BoBWT - anyone with any pricing scoop on that before Tuesday?

Also, do both the SD-DVD and BD formats of HM: BoBWT have the 3-D version along with the included 3-D glasses? I've read the BD reviews, and it definitley has the 3-D version and 4 pairs of the 3-D glasses, but I have not read anything definitive on the SD-DVD release. Does anyone have the details?

Thanks!

Fixed, already! And I thought I was doing good by having TWO pix from The Life Before Her Eyes...

So, just to make amends, instead of just changing the name to Summer Glau, I ADDED a picture of Lena Headey. Just doin' what i can to keep everyone happy!

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

I see Mike has ended the "hottie confusion" in the best possible way - not only has he properly labeled Summer Glau's hot robot pic, he's added a Lena Headey hot freedom-fighter shot. This attention to hottie detail is one reason why the Weekly Roundup remains an HTF must-read after all these years!

I want Nixon on BD but I refuse to pay over $20.00 for a catalog title, even on release day. That's just me, I can wait til it drops.

The SD-DVD format of HM & MC: BoBWC 2-Disc Extended Edition includes the 2-D & 3-D Versions, plus 4 Pairs of 3-D Glasses! The back of the case indicates that Disc 1 contains the 2-D version and Disc 2 contains the 3-D version.

I don't think that the issue is the pricing spread on the formats for each title. Both CR and HM & MC: BoBWC on BD are priced at a "normal" BD release week pricing in the $24 - $28 range. What is really surprising is the SD-DVD release week pricing on HM & MC: BoBWC - I'm really surprised that none of the major retailers have it priced under $20. Considering the success of this title in theaters though, and Miley's live concerts, I'm guessing that Disney and the retailers believe that the demand by the teen / tween girls will be high enough that the higher than normal price won't be an issue. Then again, maybe the high SD-DVD price may be strategy by Disney to encourage people to spend a couple bucks more and step up to the BD format. Who knows???

Anyway, I bought both titles on SD-DVD because 1) they were cheaper, and 2) I only have one BD capable player (PS3) and numerous DVD players. Given the numerous viewings these titles are bound to see in my house, I didn't want to have a bottle-neck at the PS3.

Somebody knows. It just ain't me!

The only problem I have with your first theory, Jeff, is that I would think the Jonas boys would be enough of a draw that Disney would be comfortable with a higher price for that product, too.

Anyway, I bought both titles on SD-DVD because 1) they were cheaper, and 2) I only have one BD capable player (PS3) and numerous DVD players. Given the numerous viewings these titles are bound to see in my house, I didn't want to have a bottle-neck at the PS3.

You didn't just fall off the turnip truck my friend! Good call!

I believe TRU is offering a 2/$40 deal if you buy the BD versions of HM and Camp Rock...so $30 if you redeem the Disney Movie Rewards $10 coupon. The following is YMMV, but there is a instant $10-off coupon on many--if not all--of the BD copies of Camp Rock (IIRC there is a similar instant-off coupon on the SD version of Camp Rock as well)...so if you can get a cashier to accept both the DMR and the instant-off coupons--hence the YMMV--you can possibly get both BD movies for $20 (plus tax, where applicable).
