Speilberg didn't do a commentary?!

Can't wait to pick this one up.

Re: Breaking News: Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (DVD/Blu-ray)

Am I correct in assuming here that the first three Indiana
Jones films will not be released to Blu-ray?

The Adventure set seems to indicate DVD.

I read a story over at Yahoo that specifically said that the four movie set was DVD only. My guess would be that if this sells (and I'm sure it will), you may see the first three on Blu-Ray next fall.

Re: Breaking News: Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (DVD/Blu-ray)

I never expected to see the first three released to Blu-ray Disc this year, so I am not surprised nor disappointed to hear that they won't be. I am happy to hear that IJatKotCS will have a BD release however.

The extras look pretty good. I would have really liked to have seen the deleted scenes for this movie though, as it looked like there was a more cohesive story originally than what wound up on the screen. I do think I liked this film a lot more than 'public opinion' would indicate regardless of that criticism.

Finally, I'm not feeling that gold border against the blue 'background' of the Blu-ray Disc case. Bleech.

Re: Breaking News: Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (DVD/Blu-ray)

This is a shame, I just want the first; Raider's of the Lost Ark. Hopefully we see it this year and let's hope it doesn't show like the Matrix did as a box set only. I will not buy The Matrix on Blu because it's only sold that way.

Re: Breaking News: Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (DVD/Blu-ray)

I certainly wasn't counting on it, but I really wish they would have just bit the bullet and issued the whole series on Blu-Ray. Now I'm not sure whether to just get this when it is released or just wait it out. I'm leaning toward the latter, but then if KotCS isn't a big seller on BD, then it might be that much longer before we get the rest.

No offense, but that is an incorrect statement. You can own The Matrix on BD, you just choose not to because you don't care for the way it's being offered, and that's fine. Personally, I'm not a hater of ToD or LC so I'd be fine if it was a boxed set. I know others don't prefer it that way, and normally I'd agree, but it's Lucasfilm here and I'd say it's a virtual certanty that the initial BD release of the previous three Indiana Jones films will be a boxed set only

Re: Breaking News: Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (DVD/Blu-ray)

Given 2011 is the 30th anniversary of Raiders of the Lost Ark, it wouldn't surprise me we'll see a boxset of all four films at that time which would make it five years for the originals to reach BD since format inception - similar to the six years it took them to reach DVD.

The fact that this is being released bodes well for future Lucas/Spielberg releases on the format. Despite my...displeased attitude towards the movie itself, I hope it sells well and jumpstarts releases of the Indy trilogy.

Glad to see Crystal Skull on BD. Would love to see the first 3 on BD as well, but I can live with the DVDs upconverted until their eventual release on BD.

I like the cover art for the BD too, Tim. Much better than the DVD cover. Much more of a classic look. The DVD cover looks like it was done in the style of the Star Wars prequel and SE editions.

The lukewarm-to-negative fan reaction (and my best friend's vitriolic thumbs-down verdict) actually kept me from seeing this one in the theater (sad, really, as I consider ROTLA the greatest action-adventure film of all time). But of course I have to see it at some point, and I'm glad I'll be able to do so on high-def.

Re: Breaking News: Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (DVD/Blu-ray)

I don't mean to start trouble, but can someone explain why the BD and the DVD 2-Disc edition are priced the same? (I think the same thing is going on with Iron Man)

A recent debate in this forum over the $25-30 pricetag on most BD new releases included the rationale -- made by those who insisted that the high cost of BDs was understandable and something we shouldn't complain about) -- that BDs cost more because they're more expensive to produce.

Is Paramount taking a financial hit on Crystal Skull BDs? Not a chance. Is the DVD set overpriced? Hmmmm, that would mean movie studios have overinflated some home video prices.

Could it be that the cost to manufacture BDs has leveled off to the point where DVD and BD prices will be more in line?

My BD collection is growing, but that's because of eBay.

It's only a matter of time before that WalMart $5 DVD bin transforms into the $10 BD bin.

I loves me some zombies.

Re: Breaking News: Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (DVD/Blu-ray)

Great news for "Indy 4", but it annoys me, that pt.1-3 are re-released in every week (now another "Complete Adventure Collection" set, I guess), but no news about those Blu-ray-releases.. I mean hell, what could´ve been the better time to release them in BD?

..oh well, perhaps around "Indy 5". 2011 sounds good.

No trailers. Lame.

Actually, I'll expand a little. I really enjoyed some of the marketing for this film. Poster art was generally speaking, superb, and the trailers were pretty damn impressive. I'd really like to see the marketing materials released on this disc, but it doesn't look like they're on there.

I thought the same thing. However, now I'm a bit more optimistic after seeing the back cover of the 2-disc DVD:

Trailers are listed there.

Re: Breaking News: Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (DVD/Blu-ray)

That back cover indicates trailers. I'm assuming these are for the film, not ads for other films.

I kinda wish the Blu-Ray had the poster art the DVD has. Not much a fan of teaser art on the discs; also, I have to say that so far Blu-Ray packaging (with the exception of Close Encounters) hasn't thrilled me. The disc contents are great, but the package leaves a lot to be desired.

That said, looking forward to this. I enjoyed the film tremendously.

Re: Breaking News: Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (DVD/Blu-ray)

The first thing through my head was, I going to pick up the new Indiana Jones Blu-ray the day it comes out. But now I am wondering if the original trilogy is going to have the new film thrown in with it. I wonder if we will end up having to buy the 4th film with the trilogy? This same type of thing happened with the Spiderman trilogy and it looks like it will happen with X-Men as well. I would love to find out if we are stuck buying another copy of the 4th film when the original trilogy comes out? If so I will pass on the 4th film as I would rather not double dip if I can help it.

Just like most two disc vs. one disc sets, they're overcharging for the two DVD set to bleed the fans who want special features. Plus, a $40 MSRP is generally the highest you can get away with when you're selling one movie.

This is the very reason there is eBay and the like. It winds up amounting to a little thing I like to call the 'extended rental', and it helps to salve the wounds us 'compulsive upgraders' subject ourselves to.

This film was a guaranteed money maker just because it's Indy and it's been nearly 20 years since the last. But, repeated viewings, I know no one that's gone back for seconds because it was such a bad film, worst of the 4 in my book.

I just hope the reason we are not seeing Raiders on Blu is that they'll be taking their time with doing it right, the first time. Like it was said above, it's by far one of the best action-adventure movies ever.
