Is Circuit City trying to fail?

Re: Is Circuit City trying to fail?

Given the choice of picking up a DVD title at Best Buy or Circuit City at a similar price, I'd choose BB any day. I have both stores within a mile of each other, so location is not a factor for me. CC sometimes has some good sale prices, but as others have noted, good luck finding them in stock, even on the first day of the sale.

I've always hated how they display DVDs, the way they make you paw through bins to try to find what you're looking for behind whatever the "facing" title is. I've never understood why they don't shelve things with spines facing out so they can be read without having to handle everything, and facings for newer titles or titles that are being promoted that week. Also, I don't think I've ever been in one that had more than a passing familiarity with the alphabet, which makes it that much harder to find what you're looking for.

And, yeah, I've had the service problems too, although kudos to the manager who turned up a copy of the correct version of "Harold & Kumar" that was on their $3.99 sale a couple of weeks ago. In the past couple of years, I think I've checked out at the Customer Service desk more often than not. There's something wrong with that.

Let's see what Darth Vader has to say about Circuit City:

Re: Is Circuit City trying to fail?

We've got a new "The City" opening this week; the current Circuit City, which opened less than 10 years ago, is moving to this new, rebranded location. I'm curious to see what CC's new approach is.

Re: Is Circuit City trying to fail?

Given the previous comments about the sales staff at Circuit City, one would have to question their new advertising campaign. I'm sure they're going for humor; however, the commercial starts with the young salesman goofing-off, watching a Rihanna video on a computer before he is startled by a customer.

For me at least, the commercial hardly conveys the image of an industrious, hard working, sales staff.

Re: Is Circuit City trying to fail?

That commercial confuses me. Is the woman (couple) who interrupts the young man's fantasies his mother? If not, why does he start stammering about how you can have all this gear to do all this fun stuff "after you've studied, of course." If not his mother, why would he feel the need to respond to her in this way? And why would the woman admit that she thinks Rhianna's hot?

I hate it when I have to think too hard about the commercials on TV.

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

Well, my wife explained it to me. I watched it again and was just as confused. But when we re-played it on the DVR, she made it clear that the woman was pretty young and shopping with her dad. The dad was the reason why the kid stammered about studying.

So, while maybe I was a doofus about the spot, I gotta figure that I'm probably not the only one who didn't really get it.

...or, maybe I was!
