From Academy Award® Winner Errol Morris
STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE

Debuts on DVD and Blu-ray™ High-Def on October 14, 2008

Culver City, CA (August 4, 2008) Academy Award® winning director Errol Morris (2004, Best Documentary Feature, The Fog of War; A Thin Blue Line) documents the real story behind the shocking Abu Ghraib prison photos in his latest documentary, Standard Operating Procedure. This Sony Pictures Classics film, which won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival and was an official selection of the Tribeca Film Festival, will be released on Blu-ray™ High-Def and DVD on October 14, 2008. Standard Operating Procedure will be available for an SLP of $38.96 for Blu-ray and $28.96 for DVD. The special features on the DVD and Blu-ray will include nine new additional scenes and a commentary with Director Errol Morris. In addition, special features, exclusive to Blu-ray, include nearly two hours worth of new interview footage, the Berlin panel discussion and press conference and the Los Angeles Premiere Q & A.

Director Errol Morris describes Standard Operating Procedure as an investigation to discover what actually happened “outside the frame” of the infamous Abu Ghraib photographs. To that end, Errol Morris compiled over a million-and-a-half words of transcript, over thirty interviews, tens of thousands of pages of documents, and over a thousand photographs. His conclusion was that “the Abu Ghraib photos serve as both an expose and a coverup.”

Synopsis
Witness one of the worst debacles in American military history. Enter Abu Ghraib. You’ve seen the photographs on the nightly news: the naked prisoners, the pyramid of degraded captives, and the infamous thumbs-up grin of the young female corporal standing guard over them all. Now, come inside and see the true story of the men and women who crossed the thin line between interrogation and torture. Errol Morris’s award-winning documentary takes you behind the bars of the 21st century’s most infamous prison, and the acts that forced a president to apologize to the world.

Re: SPHE Press Release: Standard Operating Procedure (DVD/Blu-ray)

Woah, look at all those blu-ray only extras! Having said that, it is $10 more.

But it makes me want to jump to blu-ray soon.

They obviously selected an interesting release date given the subject matter...

Far be it from me to quote myself:

But... It looks like the release date has been pushed back to October 14.

I wonder if someone inside SPHE decided that releasing this particular documentary on 9/11 was too provocative?

Re: SPHE Press Release: Standard Operating Procedure (DVD/Blu-ray)

I can't wait for this one. It's similar to "TAXI TO THE DARKSIDE", but Errol Morris is a fantastic documentarian. I'll get the SD.
Who knew a credit card could scream?

What I'm listening to right now!

This post is invisible! It also has the power to kill threads!

I'd go even further and say he is one of the best filmmakers still working.
