DLP bulb test

Is there any way to check a DLP bulb outside of the TV? I have seen several that were bad and showed obvious distress. Mine looks new, so I'm trying to determine if it's the bulb or the TV without needlessly buying a new bulb.

The only way I know of to test the bulb is to put it in a known-good projector, or stand-alone powersupply and socket.

The bulbs are short-arc lamps, which will test as an open circuit whether good or bad.
